Guest guest
I was one of 4 women who attend the NYC Meet Up this weekend. As with the other fibroids-related meetings I've attended, we had no difficulty talking up a storm. As you sit there listening and looking around at the others, you can see what a positive effect having other women who really understand what you're going through can have for each woman who speaks. Listening to the difficulty two of the women were having finding gynecologists within their insurance plans who were willing to perform myomectomies on women over 45 brought home to me the long road we still have to travel in getting gynecologists to recognize the value of an intact uterus for women beyond the childbearing years. Since I had a UAE 6 years ago, I am not currently experiencing the frustration and plain exhaustion these women were going through as they seek out information and competent and willing doctors but as a volunteer with NUFF, listening to all of them speak of their battles to get good health care helped revitalize my committment to our fight for women's health. I'm really looking forward to the June Meet Up on June 19. We'll be a much bigger group and that increased number will surely deepen the pool of available information that each woman can draw from. But no matter how big or small each Meet Up is, it shows each woman that she is not alone. Leonie
