Guest guest
Judith, I have 3-5 inch step downs into to my garage, out the front door, and onto the patio. I have answered all three problems by ordering ramps (a little $$$$$) from the following site: http://www.comforthouse.com/1thresram.html For everyone, there may be items of interest for all: Related Products: Scooters http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/scooters.html> Roll-up ramps http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/rolram.html> Track ramps http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/tracram.html> Suitcase ramps http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/suitram.html> Mobility aids http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/mob.html> Home healthcare http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/Sicroomsup1.html> supplies Incontinence supplies http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/in.html> Overbed tables http://www.comforthouse.com/comfort/vertabstan.html> Hope this is of help for everyone. Norton door sills Hello all, We are needing to replace our old sliding gass doors and in thinking to the future we want to be sure the door will be handicap accessible. I am interested in any input you might have on the doors ( probably French so they will open easier) and door sills. The handicape sills I have seen are so flat that I am afraid that in a heavy rain the water could back up on the patio and enter the house. Also they didn't seem to have tracks for a screen door and it would be nice to have screens. Are standard door sills for patio doors workable for wheelchairs? Would any cost difference between a regular door and handicap accessible be able to be counted for tax deduction even though I still walk pretty well? Doors don't get replaced very often, but I want to be prepared for what I feel will come. Judith in NC --------------------------------- Want to be your own boss? Learn how on Yahoo! Small Business. Guest guest
Judith, I have sliding glass doors. I did order an aluminum track that fits in the threshold. It does work. Jane Anne door sills

Guest guest
hey jane anne, was wondering where you got those for the track of the sliding glass doors and about how much they cost just for a slip wide enough for my chair----at my dad's and brother's they have them and altho they have rigged just plywood ramps to cover it, i am not so sure it still isn't bending the track. thanks, t email from Tawny Swain Castle, Florida door sills

Guest guest
I replaced the old sliding patio doors here with French doors that open out to the roll on patio. When shopping I was told that doors for patios have an inside lip that facilitates rain run off to the outside of the door corner (which is why sliders and their ball bearings are always getting rusty and stuck). I then had Phantom screen doors installed on the inside of the frames. The Phantoms roll up into a canister on the frame so no screen door is springing back in your way. There is a threshold height of 3/4 in on the inside. The outside threshold slopes which works well for scooter entry as well as giving more space for rain. I even bought a threshold ramp but found it more a problem than going without. Only flaws in my system: a full drink glass sloshes over the top so I learn to fill 3/4. If I leave the doors open and screens closed until after dark I must remember my friend the huge tree frog loves to suction himself to the inside glass and must be shooed away before he ends up IN the house. I had honeycomb blinds installed on the doors which means I must rush to close the doors when it rains. I did find a hook like the stores use to get clothes off the high hooks which works well for closing the doors from inside. Out of all my devices and inventions these doors get the most compliments. Guest guest
Tawny, I can not find the book I need to give you an answer. Look on the net. I just went to search and put in handicap threshold for sliding glass doors. These are not like mine but they may have changed. Hope this helps.
