repositioning

HI~

I have a son who was diagnosed with plagio and brachio around 6 mo,

but I noticed it earlier and started repositioning. When we went to

the check-up she recomfirmed my fears that his head was flat. I have

been repositioning for almost 2 months and I think that it is better.

But I still am bothered b/c it looks flat to me. I insisted on a

referrel to a craniofacial specialist and my pediatrician was annoyed.

She said all they will do is surgery which I knew better. The cranio

dr. said to just keep reposition that it would be painful to me to do

helmet treatment in the summer. However, I will do anything to fix

it. I have seen the results on the iternet and they are amazing. Has

anybody else encountered the negative reactions to helmeting? I still

am interested in it if it will help. I just don't know if I should

just keep repositioning and wait...(however it might not help) or

insist on a helmet. (I still am not sure if he needs one). Any

Hi Amy! It's a shame you've had to go through that mess. In my

opinion, if you have a pediatrician who is annoyed by your questions,

it's time to find another pediatrician. You may not always agree

with your Dr., but you should never be made to feel like you're

bothering her by sharing your concerns. That is what you're there

for. One way to look at it is that you have a Dr. and a specialist

that don't sound concerned. But...you're the mom and if you're

thinking that a helmet will benefit your son, the sooner the better.

I'd find someone who would work with me. It being hot in the

summertime seems like a poor excuse to deny a treatment that could

better a person's life. I hope this helps. Hang in there!

Good for you. Motherly instinct is very strong. We know when something isn't right and doing something about it shows that you are a strong mother and will do anything for the well being of your child. Sometimes it is hard to do what is right for our children but in the end it is always the right thing to do. Good luck. I'm sure you will get good correction over the next couple of months.
