Hysterectomy options

Sallows was childless when told she needed the surgery. She

chose an alternative - one that preserved her fertility.

Sallows wanted to keep her uterus.

She was 39, childless and actively trying to get pregnant. But uterine

fibroids made her periods abnormally heavy, and the doctors she

initially consulted agreed: They would try to preserve the uterus

during removal of the fibroids, but if the benign tumors were large

and bleeding was excessive, a hysterectomy might be unavoidable.
