Guest guest
Hi all - Just wanted to update those who have been folllowing the pregnancy threads throughout the last few months... My twins were born March 8th via c-sect at 35 weeks after I went into labor naturally. :) The OB who performed the c-sect did an u/s prior to the delivery to look at the fibroids and babies, and decided the best plan of action was to make a classical incision (vertical not horizontal) because Baby B was lying transverse above my biggie fibroid (10x14cm). OK, I said, no bikini this summer!!! During the delivery, they needed to perform a myo on one of the smaller fibroids, and resect an additional one to get to Baby A. They left the mighty giant alone, but needed to use a vaccuum pump to help get Baby B around it. Both girls came into the world screaming and hollering and none the worse for wear!!! I lost 2100cc's of blood during the c-sect and about 400cc in the 12 hours after surgery. They did have to express my uterus (push on the fundus to get the blood out (NOT FUN) and were unable to massage the uterus as they usually do to help it contract --- this was due to the location of Big Daddy Roid (It sits right under my belly button and made it very difficult for the Rn's to find the edges of my uterus). All this blood loss resulted in me becoming anemic(of course, why not, right??!!) and I got to have my very first blood transfusion the next morning (my hemoglobin was down to 6.8). I feel like a member of some elite fibroidian club! I got two pints and felt quite a bit better afterward, I must say! I was delayed from seeing my girls until I was stable, which was about 24 hours from their birth (Dad got to see them lots - so that made me feel ok about focusing on me for a bit). Zoe (4lbs 1oz) and Eden (4lbs 6oz) are doing GREAT! They are in the NICU for a few more days now as they pass the last of their preemie milestones. They had no complications of prematurity that were cause for alarm or even threatening - they'd become strong little women in the war zone that was their womb!!! We can't wait to get them home!! I went home after the standard 4 days, got to go back the same night with a fever of 100.9. UGHHHHHH! The OB " guessed " it is endometritis, as no other tests showed anything wrong. My " guess " --- one pissed of Roid void of all those fibroid friendly pregnancy hormones! My hope is that it will SHRINK and shrink quickly (I've already been asked twice when I am due! YIKES!). I'm two weeks into recovery and despite the classical incision, myo and resection, and the ever present Beast, I am starting to feel quite a bit better. I anticipate another week or two for the incisions,to be healed and I should be at about 90% . . . just in time for the exhaustion of raising twins to set in!!! :) Sooo, there you have it!! It is absolutely possible to carry babies even with Monster Invaders and even to have a relatively complication free pregnancy -- I worked until 34 weeks and was still on my feet when they were born. The delivery, may sound a bit harrowing, but I knew all these things were a possibility (thank you NUFF and LOL's), so none of it was scary or out of the blue, which made making decisions about my care and knowing how to recover A LOT easier. Besides, once you get to the post-partum part, all you care about is the health of your new little family member (or members!!) -- and let me tell you, ours ARE the cutest ever !!! teehee. All my best baby thoughts to those of you still cooking your bambinos. It is truly amazing experience! All my best, , Zoe and Eden
