hi, all. i have been offline since my myo. all has gone better than expected.

if you don't want to read my report, please jump to the end for my post-op

question. thanks for everything, ladies!

i highly recommend the preparing for surgery book/tape. it was very helpful in

providing useful info and calming my nerves.

my surgery lasted a little over an hour. there were 6 fibroids. the largest was

3 cm. two were cohabitating (stuck together). i don't remember recovery. my

surgery was at 84am and by early afternoon i was in my room making phone calls.

i listened to the tape from surgery until i woke up in my room. i was in a

double, but did not have a roommate :-) my mom was with me until early evening.

i was up walking the floor with the nurse that evening. was a little light

headed at first, but it was gone the second time up. my catheter came out the

night of my surgery. in hindsight i should have left it in until the morning. i

got up quite a bit to urinate. i guess it was all the iv fluid.

i had ice chips until the morning. breakfast was regular (eggs, grits, juice,

bacon) and damn good! i was home afternoon.

there has been very little vaginal discharge and drainage from my incision. i

got some type of bacterial infection in the hospital. it seems to be responding

to the antibiotic. my abdomen was very sensitive to the touch when i would move

around. even cotton panties irritated the skin.

since i was only in the hospital for a day, i did not take much. what i used the

most was: headset and surgery tape, magazine, favorite stuffed animal and

picture of parents, hard candy, lip balm, hand lotion. i used hospital pads,

panties, slipper/socks, gown, robe, dental and hygiene stuff.

stuff that was helpful to have at home include:

a.. grandma panties

b.. pillow for sitting, propping, riding in cars, coughing, laughing

c.. a little bag with lip balm, hand lotion, baby wipes and eye drops to take

every where i go

d.. a mommy to take good care of me for two weeks!!!

QUESTION

i had my post-op with the doctor two weeks out and it was very cut and dry. it

was in her office, fully clothed. i asked her to look at my incision and she

said it looked good. the nurse took my blood pressure. is it me or was that too

basic? i just thought it odd not to do a sonogram, examine me or feel me. they

did not even take my temperature or another urine sample to see if the bacterial

infection was clearing up.

i am trying not to stress b/c that is part of the new post-op me, but i'm kind

of feeling like a one night stand. she got hers and left . . .

can you share the name/author of the surgery prep book and tape you used? I

am very interested in trying that.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I am only online 1-2 days a week.

The name of the book is " Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster, " and the

author is Peggy Huddleston. Some hospitals have seminars on this and

actually give the book and tape away (mine did).
