Hello all,

Today I went for my 3rd opinion ...went to my RE who did my IVF cycles years

ago.

anyway, his opinion??? YEP! you guessed it!....HYSTO !!!!!!!

looks like I will be looking for number 4.

I went as prepared as I could possibly be, had films of my ultrasound and MRI

along with the reports,

I have a 12cm fibroid along with other various sizes, my problem is that I have

lots of scar tissue due to a previous myo and 2 c-sections and he felt that the

best solution would be a hysto.

He went on to tell me that choosing to do a myo vs. a hysto is silly, he said

that it would be easier (for whom I wonder???) to have a hysto and uuuummm

let's see, how did he put it??? ho yes " if we are going to open you to remove

just the fibroids, it would be like ordering a full course dinner but having

just dessert " After I simply stated that a hysto was not up for discussion, he

then went on to say that he really does not perform lots of myos and, of the few

that he does they are simple ones (thank you for your honesty) anyway, he gave

me a name of a SKILLED surgeon and I was wondering if anyone out there has ever

heard of him. His name is Dr. Dottino affiliated with Mt. Sanai Hospital

in NYC.

He also discouraged me against UFE saying that it is a new procedure and a

dangerous one.

Well ladies, now I am totally confused ..don't know which direction to go. I

want these darned things out of me, but I don't know anymore what option to

take.

Any suggestions????

Thank you.

Hi Marisa,

I went through the same thing. Had a vaginal myo eight years ago, and grew

several new fibroids afterwords. I went to five doctors (three women, two men)

and one acupuncturist (woman) and they all told me I had to get an hysto or it

would be the end of my life and that was the only solution to my bleeding

problem. They told me everything from I would get cancer to I could die from

these fibroids.

I was scheduled for an hysto Dec 12, and a few days before I canceled. I went on

the Internet and found out about UFE and this group as well as the embo group,

and I found a great IR. I had an UFE March 18 for my multiple fibroids (18week

size uterus) largest was 10 cm. My bleeding has already gone down by 3/4 and my

stomach is half the size. Instead of two weeks of gushing bleeding I have three

days. Go keep getting opinions until you feel comfortable with what you hear.

There is no great rush. Don't get pressured if you don't feel good about it.

They don't block the ovarian arteries, only the uterine arteries. A lot of women

on this site think they block ovarian, but that is not true. I would recommend

the procedure to anyone with fibroids. I don't think anyone has ever died of

UFE. I think the doctors just are afraid of the unknown and are also afraid

because they are losing a lot of patients because they feel more comfortable

performing more radical procedures such as myo and hysto.
