The iron I'm taking is causing severe constipation so I'm trying some tonic and smoothie recipes to help things move and give me the iron my body needs in a more natural state. Here's a recipe for " 's Herbal Iron Elixir " 's Herbal Iron Elixir 4 parts dried, unsulfured apricots, chopped fine 2 parts dandelion leaves 2 parts dandelion root 2 parts nettle leaves 2 parts yellow dock root 1 part dried raisins or currants 1 part licorice root 1 part orange peel 1 part grated fresh gingerroot 1. Mix all ingredients. Place 1 cup of mixture in a bowl or jar and pour 1 quart boiling water over all. Cover and steep for 20 minutes. 2. Strain, pressing all liquid from the mixture. When cool, squeeze out liquid with a cheesecloth. 3. While it's still warm, add ¼ to ½ cup blackstrap molasses to every pint of elixir. Refrigerate and use within 6 months.
