Dear : Oh my goodness! You must keep in touch with me. Though I am 48yrs

old now, despite my Mullerian anomaly, I gave birth to a healthy little girl who

is now 12 yrs.old. I also belong to another wonderful web woman's group for

woman diagnosed with these specific uterine anomalies referred to as Mullerian

Anomalies. The web site is: www.wegrokit.com/uterineanomalies and also linked

to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MullerianAnomalies. It's been a blessing to me

to find this uterine fibroid group and the other one. I only wish I had known

about the Mullerian Group years ago when I was first diagnosed back in 1976! I

could have used the support. Anyway, these fibroids really make it difficult for

the doctors to see anything especially with a uterine anomaly. , if you

are located in New York, there is a Doctor Porges and his assistant Dr. Smilen

who are familiar with uterine anomalies. At your age, they would be more willing

perhaps to do a myomectomy, (removal of the fibroids - leaving the uterus

intact) or perhaps a Uterine Fibroid Embolization (a radiologist does that).

Either which way, you must know your anatomy first! Good experienced Doctors

are very important because each one of our uterine anomaly situations and

fibroid situations, despite their similarities, are also unique to themselves.

That's where you need good medical advice and information for you to understand

the meaning of your special situation. I can only tell you what has been done

for me so far in regards to my fibroid situation: I was given a CAT scan and

then, an MRI of my pelvic and abdominal regions. That helped to determine the

fibroid situation better (especially the MRI). , you need to be with a

good OBGYN doctor. Think about fertility as well and all that implies. The

decisions you make should be well thought out. I'm still wondering what I should

do. I've met with the OBGYN who delivered my daughter and another GYN/Uterine

Surgeon who performs myomectomy and hysterectomy, etc. (both NYU doctors), and

they feel that mainly because of my age and nothing else, I should have a

hysterectomy! I'm not sure I want that and I'm not sure about the Embolization

procedure either. Both have risks. I'd prefer myomectomy, but no one seems to

want to " save " my uterus but me! Myomectomy has risks as well and you need an

incredibly skilled surgeon to do that operation, but it may be worth it. I'll

keep you posted as to my ultimate decision. Until then, please feel free to

write to me. Let me know what's happening. Thankfully there seem to be a lot of

women on this site who are willing to share their experiences. I thank you so

much for sharing your experiences with me. It's so helpful. Perhaps, we will be

able to help not only each other, but many women in the future who will be in

similar situations. Please look into the other web site as well, but I think

your fibroid issues are top priority too! You need both kinds of info. just like

I do. Speak with you soon and good luck on May 5th! :o) ~ Janet P.~

Hi Janet,

Very glad to read your wonderfull words. Believe me,

it is not for the fact of begging compassion from

people BUT each day that pass I realize people dont

have NOT ANY idea of what a woman can suffer when

these problems come. That is why we find a lot of

comprehension, support and solidarity in this group.

You have to have a fibroid to understand, you have to

be trying for a baby to really understand and it is

not easy at all. I read your history and I am glad to

know you could finally have a girl, your really lucky.

But perhaps you only had the mullerian anomalies, not

like me, besides I am 37 so fertility is not the same

as in your case, you were younger,..I know is possible

for me, there is always a hope but each day are less,

...Anyway, I know that the secret is a good doctor BUT

i dont think I have the best,..I live in Montreal,

Canada, and my specilist is not bad is a very good

one BUT he told me if I try a myomectomy I can not

guarantee you it wont beocme a hysterectomy and

besides that it will be so big as per the size of my

fibroid that you have the risk of having scarves that

will be against your fertility. So far, I have not yet

the picture of my situation,..I will no on the 5 of

may, only then , and I will keep you posted on the

news. For your case Janet, i know that the

embolization is very good, nota big surgery, very fast

recovering and the only bad thing so far is that

fertility could be a risk,..some woman has fall into

menopause after that. In my opinion, doctors are not

convinced or do not know why sometimes have one effect

and why some times other effects..as it seems is just

like by coincidence, in some years i am sure the will

discover that those cases that fall into menaupause

was because of this reason..it is just a matter of

years..but definitly is something very good. I know is

very hard to decide to take out the uterus, me,

myself, I have nightmares with that, but you should

think about all the choices. I am telling you from the

bottom of my heart, I dont have child, I dont know if

god will give me one in the future, but I can tell you

that one you have once...is something..at least you

have one,..and you should think that you should live

for that girl you have the longest you can. If you

have in mind to have another baby, then try

everything, try embolization, myo or any other thing,

but if you are not trying then think a lot on that

words. Anyway our reproductive live is not so long, we

enter into menopause very soon in life, even me I am

premenopause in one or two years, so if you see your

life risk or anything make the best decision for you

and your daughter. Believe me Janet, perhaps my words

will be wrong interpreted by you,..you are the only

person who decides, ME TOO, that is why since 2000 i

have this little monster inside me and I decided to

deal with it, I know my quality of life has

deteriorated but I am playing my last chances,..I know

I am in the best shape as before, I get lazy and tired

faster, my eyes are not the same but I decided that

way, you too you can do what you prefer..I am just

giving you an aproach...

Very nice to be in touch with you and pls do not

hesitate in writing me back

regards,
