Researcher aims to lift awareness

A BENDIGO researcher hopes her study will prompt awareness about

alternatives to hysterectomy.

New research by La Trobe University Bendigo student Graham

into hysterectomy as a treatment for menstrual problems found women

were not fully aware of other options available to them.

She said the research supports a " watch and wait " approach for women

with menstrual symptoms who are nearing menopause, as menstrual

problems decreased over time.

Dr Graham surveyed almost 700 Australian women as part of the study.
