Guest guest
Hello Everyone...I've been dealing with heavy bleeding every day for about one and half months. My doctor feels that it is from a fibroid in the wall of the uterus. I also have a smaller fibroid on the outside wall of the uterus, but it is the one in the wall that is bleeding. I been also diagnosed with anemia because of all this. I've been researching on all different types of treatments. Right now my doctor feels that the best choice is a hysterectomy. We have also considered an ablation, the heated balloon therapy to stop the bleeding hopefully corterizing the blood vessels, and hopefully saving the uterus, but in honesty the doctor doesn't think this procedure will work and a hysterectomy will have to be eventually done. I have just gone through a D&C on Monday, to help control the bleeding but guess what??...I'm still bleeding, plus I'm on a low dose birth control pill that does nothing. Has anyone gone through this before??...what are you're experiences??..what worked for you???...and if I have to get a hysterectomy, what were your experience??? Thanks for all your input, and for your help......christinep1123@...
Guest guest
Hi, YES, I've been there. I had 1 fibroid (that's all it takes) causing me to bleed, in the end, pretty non stop. Huge clots and floods became a norm. I had severe anemia that sent me to the ER twice. You are not alone. I was also told hyst 3 times but I learned better from this group. All the docs that told me hysts couldn't perform a myo. If I was you, I'd be asking your doc how many myos he/she does. If your fibroid is small and in the right location. You may be able to have a resection. A simple 1 day surgery with little pain and little recovery time. Another option is a myo (remove the fibroid, leave the uterus). Another option is UAE (choking the blood supply to the fibroid). You can have a FUS (using ultrsound to heat and kill the fibroid). Your doc is WRONG about a hyst eventually needing to be done. You need to fully understand that there are more than one kind of hyst. Hyst is NOT a simple surgery. And you may be trading one set of problems for another with hyst. You need to research hyst and all other of these options. Your doc is also WRONG about ablation. When you have a fibroid, ablation is not recommended. If your fibroid is in the right location to cause bleeding, bc pills, Lupron, NOTING may fully stop the bleeding. You need a new doc. A RE might be a good possibility for you (resection or myo). A RA would be needed for a UAE. If you tell the women here where you are they may be able to help you find a new doctor. Did your doc tell you ALL of your options? Can your doc do a myo? If so, how many? Have you had a saline ultrasound? A MRI? How big is the fibroid inside your uterus? Is it pendulated? Be aggressive in your treatment of your anemia. It can be very dangerous. I don't regret my myo. I got my life back. My only regret is not doing it sooner. I couldn't have a UAE (had a pendulated fibroid) but many here have been happy with theirs. The whole point is that you have CHOICES! Several of them. Guest guest
Hi . I don't understand why your doctor hasn't considered other options besides a hysterectomy. I had regular major bleeding and clotting, had anemia and major cramping from my 15 fibroids. I was on Percocet for a while to help with the pain and had to take iron pills for the anemia. My doctor recommended an abdominal myomectomy b/c of the size, number and location of my fibroids. I ended up getting the myo and I remained fibroid free for a few years. You said in your message something about hopefully saving your uterus. If this is what you want to do, then you need to research all of your options. I am only familiar with the abdominal myo which allowed me to preserve my uterus to someday conceive. A lot of people in this group have experience with the other treatment options. I know the pain and bleeding may seem unbearable at times, but you don't want to rush into something so permanent. Good luck! --- christinep1123 christinep1123@...> wrote: > Hello Everyone...I've been dealing with heavy > bleeding every day for > about one and half months. Guest guest
, see my response to " fibroid bleeding management " http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/message/48901 Your case sounds like another doctor unwilling to refer a patient to another doctor for the most appropriate treatment. It seems that a small number of gyns are trained to do hysteroscopic resections. Probably because it takes more training than a two day seminar.
