New procedure called " quality of life issue " for women

SOUTHAVEN — Health care professionals at Baptist Memorial

Hospital-DeSoto are touting the benefits of a new technique for

fighting uterine fibroids.

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors or cysts that develop along the

uterine wall and affect many women of all ages. According to

physicians, fibroid tumors of the uterus are very common and have been

previously treated by a variety of options, including drug therapy,

myomectomy, and hysterectomy.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) involves the use of catheters which

are injected tiny plastic particles that restricts the blood flow to

the tumor.
