I’m Attached to My Uterus (Literally and Figuratively):

& Others: I too have an “attachment” to my uterus – many of us do.

Perhaps some of it is a bit emotional; but frankly I could get past the

emotional part if it made logical sense to me. Fact is, it doesn’t.

First, there are plenty of logical health reasons for keeping my uterus. If

I felt that the health benefits outweighed the risks & IF there were no

other reasonable way to treat the fibroids, I might even decide to give it

up. BUT there are other reasonable methods of treatment: methods which

don’t carry the same lifetime health risks. So, I feel that keeping my

uterus is a LOGICAL decision not an emotional one.

I think the medical system has duped our society into believing that female

attachment to reproductive organs beyond child-bearing is purely emotional,

when in fact it is not. As Helen says in “Women’s Health Counts:”

-- “One could only speculate on whether a similar attachment of a male to

his testes after his fathering days were over would be seen as purely

sentimental perhaps irrational . . .”

For more info, I refer you to the archives. Specifically, for instance,

Carla’s post #44321 and my post #44318 – and others referred to therein.

And – keep in mind that our ovaries do NOT shut-down at menopause. They

continue to function for our entire lifetime – producing different

combinations of hormones. Even when retained at hysterectomy, they

sometimes shut-down. Ovaries that shut down are NOT the same as menopausal

ovaries. Loosing your ovaries, or their functionality is CASTRATION --

NOT menopause.

FOR ANN:

HUGE HUGS and MIGHTY CONGRATULATIONS to Ann & Hubby. GOOD WORK. I look

forward to being kept informed of your pregnancy adventures!!! --

Pat
