Dear Habon,

I am going to be very straightforward in my advice. Of course this is your

body, and your decision and you have to make it yourself, but you did ask for

input, so here is mine:

RUN! Given what you have described, I say RUN FROM THIS DOCTOR as fast as

your fibroid-filled body will allow you to!!!!!

There is NO RUSH to do the surgery right away. You are 29 years old and want

children. IF this doctor messes up and does a hysterectomy, you will not

have another shot at the surgery. TAKE YOUR TIME and shop for a doctor that you

FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH.

Those of us who have been researching and have been on this list for years

can tell you that THE BEST SURGEONS out DO NOT talk continually about " excessive

blood loss " and bring up possible hysterectomy as a **likely** outcome. They

are VERY EXPERIENCED and CONFIDENT in their skills, and that confidence will

rub off on you. It is natural to feel a little scared before surgery.

However, the TERROR that you are describing is much more than that. It is your

WISE

INNER SELF telling you that this is not the doctor for you, and there is a

GOOD REASON for that!

SHOP AROUND. You owe it to yourself. Find a surgeon who SPECIALIZES in

myomectomy. ASK HIM/HER how many of those have been converted to hysterectomy.

The answer, in my opinion, should be close to ZERO. The doctor should be

willing to give you REFERENCES from former patients. CALL THOSE PATIENTS and

talk

with them!

If you will post your location, I'm sure the ladies here can direct you to a

well-respected, excellent surgeon in your area. This list is an incredible

resource.

Cancel the surgery, take your time, and find an experienced myomectomy

SPECIALIST.

Subject: Upcoming Surgery - Need Advise

I have a myo coming up - next Friday to be exact and the closer I get

to the date, the more scared and worried I become.  I went to my Dr.

today for my pre-op and came out terrified of what's to come.  All he

kept talking about is what could go wrong and the word hysterectomy

came up quite a bit. He stated that there could be a lot of bleeding

due to blood vessels and that could mean having to perform a hysto.

Afterwards, he gave me a piece of paper to take to the hospital to

pre-register which stated that I would be having a myo and possibly a

hysto.  That really freaked me out!!!!!!!!!  I am 29 yrs old and want

to have children, and am afraid that this Dr. will end up performing

a hysto.  Does anyone know if this is standard procedure for all Drs.

to tell their patients about the possibility of a hysto?  Also, is it

common for them to state on the pre-registration form that a possible

hysto is scheduled?  Lastly, should I be talking to him about what to

do in the event of having to have a hysto ?  It's my understanding

that there are different forms of hysto, i.e. where you can remove

the whole uterus or you can keep your ovaries.  I am really confused

at this time and have even thought about cancelling the surgery.  I

guess I have to start trusting my Dr., but after today, it's a little

hard.
