Hi everyone. I have scheduled my myomectomy for April 8. I’m not thrilled

about having it but I want to be pain-free finally.

My question is for those who have had this procedure, how long was your

recovery? I know each person is different but this will give me a norm.

Thanks and hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. :-)

Hi ,

I am 11 days post abdominal myo right now and I feel good, although I

get tired easily. I am in no pain and haven't been for about a

week. I can tell that something was done in the incision area (mine

is vertical), but it's not painful.

I am walking fine, going up and down stairs is fine, bending over is

ok, getting in & out of bed isn't a problem, etc. My challenges are

that I can't lift anything heavier than my pocketbook (including my

14 month old daughter) and haven't gotten the go ahead to drive yet,

although I expect to later this week. I was told it was because of

the narcotics, but when I told my Dr. I'm not taking any narcotics,

she said I shouldn't drive for 2 weeks.

I think you will find that your recovery is better than you

anticipated, although you will probably not be 100% back to normal

for 4-8 weeks or so.

Good luck to you. The anticipation of the surgery & recovery is much

worse than the actual surgery & recovery.

Take Care,

Cindy

Hi

I had an abdominal myomectomy done February 19th and have to second

what was said here. The anticipation of it was the most nerve

wracking thing for me. I am up and about walking stairs, doing

laundry etc almost back to my normal routine. I took three weeks off

from work and am bored stiff right now but have not been release to

drive or go back to work yet. My post op appointment is Friday. I

am still taking pain meds but only to sleep comfortably at night. I

would say the most painful thing is initially getting up after

surgery. But you'll get better the more you walk around.

If you have any other questions I'm here. And thanks to everyone out

there that helped me with their reassurance and answers.

Hi Cindy

Has your swelling subsided yet? I am 12 days post and mine hasn't. Do

you know what the statistics are of them growing back?

Thx

Hi Fran,

I'm now 18 days post myo & it's hard to say if the swelling has

subsided - I never lost all of my weight after my daughter was born

(still have 25 lbs. to lose) so I still have a belly. I'd say it's

probably still swolen a little although it doesn't hurt. I have

only been able to wear one pair of 'regular' pants since the

surgery - the others are uncomfortable around the waist. I do seem

to have gained a few pounds since my surgery but I think that's

because my parents have been staying with us and my Mom is an

excellent cook! :o)

I don't think it's possible for a fibroid that's been removed to

grow back, but it is possible for new ones to grow. I think it's

somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% of women who have myos will

develop new fibroids, but it doesn't mean that the new ones will be

problematic. Remember that there are thousands of women with

fibroids that never cause problems and never require treatment (and

I'm sure thousands more who never know they have them).

Take care & I hope the rest of your recovery is speedy!

~Cindy
