Hi a,

This is the scariest part of any surgery - the waiting. I promise. I was so

scared before my myo and everything turned out great. Doctors and nurses do

this stuff all the time. They are experts whose only job that day is to take

care of you. Try getting a massage or getting acupuncture to calm yourself down

before you cancel. Trust me - you'll feel so much better when you're on the

other side of this and fibroid free!

You will be just find in surgery and we all have the

same feeling about being under anesthesia, but you

will do just find.

I found Peggy Huddleston's book and tape, " preparing for

surgery,healing faster, " and hynotherapy helpful in overcoming some

of the same fears. Good luck to you.

Hi a,

To me the anesthesia is at the bottom of my worries for my upcoming surgery.

So many advances have been made in the field of anesthesia that it is very

safe. Just remember, the anesthesiologist is as important as your surgeon and

although you can't pick and choose as you can with your surgeon, make sure he or

she is well-informed of your concerns. I'm sure they will allay any fears you

have.

Last year, I had a salivary gland tumor removed from my neck (benign) and the

general anesthesia was probably the easiest part - I was awakened in the OR

and by the time I hit the recovery room, I was wide awake and an hour later I

was eating a sandwich. No nausea, only a slightly scratchy throat that was gone

in an hour.

Don't worry you'll be fine. By the way, if you suffer from dry eyes, thyroid

problems or wear contacts ask the anethesiologist to put drops in your eyes -

I did - that's the last thing I remember before I went under - the smiling

anethesiologist waving a bottle of eye drops - it was like he was saying 'I

didn't forget!'

I understand your concerns. I had my myo on May 17th & was nervous

about the anesthesia as well. I spoke with the anesthesioligist prior

to my surgery & he calmed my fears. In the OR, they give you a

cocktail just prior to the anesthetic that makes you a bit dizzy then

they give you the anesthetic & your'e asleep in 3 seconds. When you

wake up (& you will wake up) you know that it's over & you can begin

your new life! I felt instant relief when I awoke - I didn't have the

4 month pregnant belly anymore & I know that the anticipation of the

surgery was over & I was thrilled!!!!

They gave me some anti-nausea medicine in my IV which you can ask

for. I did throw up twice - once on the first day & once on the

second day but that was it. Everyone's different - some ladies have

no side affects at all.

Another lady said that they have made major advances in anesthetic

over the years & my fear was that I wouldn't wake up too but I did &

I knew that it was the best decision I made - having the myo.

You will feel great once it's all over & like everyone says - the

anticipation of the surgery is the worst part.
