Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am a new member of this site and very happy to have a support forum. My problem started with uncontrollable bleeding during my period in November '03. My period would not end and was so heavy I ended up in the ER. I was prescribed high dose progesterone which slowed things down temporarily. I have since been to 3 doctors for diagnosis. An ultrasound revealed a small fibroid, invasive to the interior uterine wall. The 2nd Dr. took me off of high progesterone bcp's (Loestrin) and prescibed high dose estrogen bcp's (Ovocon). He told me that the fibroid was the cause of my bleeding and that it could only be removed via hysterectomy as there was (for him) an unacceptable risk of perforation and uncontrollable bleeding if he removed it through the vagina. This seemed odd to me, since there seem to be many less radical treatment options, especially if the fibroid is small. A month later, the bleeding continued, so I went to Dr. #3 - a female urogynocologist. She said I should never have been prescribed estrogen (I have hypertension) and put me on another progesterone-based bcp, which did not stopped the bleeding. She discovered a polyp in my vaginal canal and removed it. She's not convinced that the fibroid is the cause of my bleeding and has recommended a D&C and Hysteroscope. I will undergo these procedures on Monday in the hospital. I'd be interested in hearing about others experiences with these procedures. I am really hoping that the fibroid is not the problem, as I'm not looking forward to another surgery. Thanks for reading and best to all, Lynn
