Guest guest
Kristi, There are four types of miscarriages: threatened, inevitable, incomplete, and complete. A threatened miscarriage is any bleeding or cramping of the uterus within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Inevitable miscarriage is intolerable pain or bleeding that threatens the woman's well-being; it occurs while the cervix has already partially opened. If parts of fetal tissue are passed or if the membranes are ruptured, the miscarriage is called incomplete. If the entire fetus is passed, the uterus has reduced in size, and the cervix has closed, the miscarriage is termed complete. If the miscarriage is NOT complete and fetal or placental tissue remains in the uterus, a D&C procedure is necessary. So if you miscarriage is completed, there is no need for a D&C procedure. You may want to ask your doctor why a D&C is not needed in your case and depending on his answer, decide on a second opinion. Jackie D&C after miscarriage? I have had 2 miscarriages, and I have not had a D&C after either of them. I was told that everything appeared to have passed out, and they weren't " that far " along to warrant one. The first pregancy was about 5 weeks, multiple, and the 2nd one was about 10 weeks along. I was not on any medication to produce the multiple pregnancy. Our family is due this generation for twins. Anyway, is this a common procedure to have or not, or should I seek a second opinion? Kristi
