Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the group, and have just been reading some of the recent posts. I haven't been diagnosed with fibroids yet, but the preliminary information I've been given is that I might have them. I haven't heard back from the nurse practioner yet, so I'm making an appointment with a doctor. I have been bleeding practically non-stop for about 3 years now. Some days are really heavy with large clots...other days, the blood is very light to none. It started out with no period for about a year, then non-stop. The posts about nausea and fibroids really interested me. I suffer from nausea a lot. The problem is, I also have Lupus and I'm sensitive to sulfites, so I'm not sure what the problem is. It could be the medication I'm on for lupus, it could be sulfites in the food I'm eating...I just don't know. It does seem to be almost cyclical. I know I used to get nauseated at the beginning of my periods back when they were normal. I haven't made my appointment yet, as I'm a big chicken. I was wondering if it's possible my husband can go in with me during the exams and the procedures. I don't want to be alone. I put off going until he made me go. I'd never even been to a gyn because I was afraid I'd be embarrassed and I was afraid of the exams etc. I don't really know what to expect if I do have fibroids. Right now, I'm just kind of in a daze. I've always hated my monthly cycle, and now it's a daily cycle! My periods have always been painful and quite heavy. I've thought there was something wrong for at least the last 10-15 years, but the fear kept me from going to a doctor, so I've ignored it. Plus there's the cost factor. Seeing a rheumatologist once every 3 months is expensive, not to mention the prescriptions...now add in this? I don't have insurance, and am on disability, but I can't get medicare for about another year and a half. It's enough to drive a person batty. :| Well, I'm glad this group is here! I know I need all the help I can get...Thanks for letting me ramble! --Pamela
Guest guest
Pam You've got to get to the gyno right away. I'm sure you could find out about one that would give you a break having no insurance. Anyway, your bleeding, you need to go asap. You need to find about what is going on. Have you ever been to a gyno before? Have you had a pelvic exam before? I know its not the most pleasant thing to do, but look at it from the docs stand point. They are doing this all day long and see hundreds and hundreds of patients with and without problems. Don't take it so personally. Go with your husband, go with your girfriend. Just go and stop putting this off. You are probably anemic from all the bleeding and need some iron supplements. There are treatments for fibroids! Take it from there when and if they diagnose you. I had awful bleeding, clots, hemmorages from this. I finally had an embolization 7 weeks ago and am a new person today. Good luck and don't put this off any longer. Asking all these questions will never get you a daignosis and solution unless you get to the gyno now. Guest guest
Hi, Pamela, and welcome to the group. Good for your husband for instisting that you go to the nurse practitioner, and go to you for going! You can certainly speak to someone at the doctor's office and let them know you are very frightened and want your husband to be in the room during the examination. I believe most doctors would not have a problem with this. If the nurse practitioner you saw did an internal examination, you've already had an experience with the type of examination the doctor will do. Most likely he or she will also want a blood test and possibly an ultrasound, which is a simple test using sound waves to see what's inside your uterus. To have this test, you lie on a table with a gown and sheet on, your belly is exposed and they use a simple wand-type instrument with some gel on it to run over your belly. There'll be a screen near-by where the technition can see a picture of what the sound waves find. The biggest nuisance with this test is that they want you to drink a good amount of water beforehand, as this help make the bladder easy to distinguish. To help keep the expense down, you can check with hospitals near you. They often offer low-cost clinics. In particular, if there is a teaching hospital near you, they are likely to have clinics. You'd be seen by a resident until the instruction of a gynecologist. Teaching hospitals are usually up on the latest information and techniques. You could also check with Planned Parenthood -- they offer low cost gynecological care, not just in connection with pregnancy. Please ask any other questions you may have. Guest guest
Pamela, All 4 of the GYN's that I have been to would allow my hubby in the room. I am sure yours will. Just GO girl! It won't even last a min. The anticipation is the worse part. You need to get in there and find out what is going on! > Hi, > > I'm new to the group, and have just been reading some of the recent > posts. > > I haven't been diagnosed with fibroids yet, but the preliminary > information I've been given is that I might have them. Guest guest
Hi Jen, I've been trying to find a Dr. that doesn't basically hang up on me when they find out I don't have insurance. I went to Planned Parenthood at the beginning of March, and they weren't very pleased that I didn't have insurance either. In fact they were supposed to call me back regarding some of the tests, and I haven't heard back from them and get the run around when I call them. I hate doctors anyway...my husband went to PP with me and held my hand through the whole thing, so it wasn't so bad. I'm just scared of the cost now, more than anything. I kept ignoring it hoping it would go away, but it hasn't yet. My mother-in-law is trying to talk to her doctor to see if she'll take me. Thank you!! -- Pamela > Pam > You've got to get to the gyno right away. Guest guest
, Thanks for the info. My hubby gets so angry with me because I'm such a chicken. If it hadn't been for him, I probably would still be ignoring it! Thanks! --Pamela > Pamela, > > All 4 of the GYN's that I have been to would allow my hubby in the > room. I am sure yours will.
