I've been lurking here over the weekend and reading the very helpful

and informative posts from the past month. I think you've answered

many questions already.

Here is my story so far----almost two years ago I was found to have a

7 cm uterine fibroid with an enlarged uterus. It was an incidental

finding on an ultrasound which also discovered an enlarged liver and

hepatic cyst.

On Friday I went to my PCP (first time back since the previously

mentioned ultrasound almost two years ago) because of bleeding which

had persisted for an entire month. She said my blood pressure was

elevated (180-something over 90-something), my uterus " huge, " and

that I was likely anemic. (I was anemic at my last appointment, as

well, and judging by how I've felt the last couple of years I

wouldn't be surprised if there was at least low-level anemia during

most of the past couple years.) She was very concerned, said I could

get myself " in a lot of trouble " if this went on any longer, and

scheduled a transvaginal ultrasound for Monday. She also said I

needed to schedule an appointment with a GYN as soon as possible. In

addition, she gave me Prometrium and Bextra to help control the

bleeding.

I am now waiting for the results of the ultrasound. I went ahead and

made an appointment with a GYN, whom I've never seen before, as I

knew it would take a while to get in---the appointment is for March

25---even though I don't know what the ultrasound will reveal, other

than that the technician said that I have more than one fibroid (no

surprise, based on what my research here and elsewhere has revealed

about the nature of fibroids).

Is it just me, or does it seem strange that the doctor would be able

to schedule an ultrasound so quickly if it wasn't somewhat urgent

that it be looked at right away? I've had many ultrasounds, but

never one that was scheduled so soon after seeing the doctor. But if

it was so urgent that it be done so quickly, then why the three-day

wait (or more) for the report? And obviously nothing much is going

to happen until I've seen the GYN a little over three weeks from

now. I go back and forth between a feeling of urgency to find out

more and thinking it must not be that urgent or someone would have

seen to it that the report came back faster.

I feel so foolish now, as I look back over the past couple years and

all the symtpoms that I now recognize as probably being due to the

fibroid(s) and enlarged uterus. I have consistently had problems

with my reproductive system through my life, so I should have been

more vigilant. In my defense, I have a multiply handicapped daughter

who requires care 24/7, so it is extremely difficult for me to get

away, even for doctors' appointments. Plus, after I take her to all

her medical appointments, the last thing I want to do is schedule one

for myself.

Thank you for allowing me to vent. It is helpful to have somewhere

to put all these concerns into writing. If anyone has any particular

insights or advice, I would be very interested. By the way, I'm 51

years old, with no sign of menopause in the near future.

Thanks again.
