wow, just glad you are ok and had to say that. i have trouble mildly with

swallowing but haven't had aspiration before. hopefully others can share

better---not that i hope others have aspiration pneumonia, but that you get more

support than what i can give.

cappuccino...without my 'safely straw....and inhales alot of it...the

Aspiration pneumonia. NOT my first experience with choking...but the

first serious aspitation.

So...those of you who have had aspiration pneumonia......how long show

I expect to feel like i died two days ago?!!!!!!

Would appreciate feedback and advice.

Oh Di, how horrible for you. What is aspiration pneumonia anyway. I

have heard people talk about it but dont know what makes it occur

besides choking. I did that the other day with corn on the cob. No

wheezing, just spat everything out.

Big hugs going your way Di. I pray that you feel much much better soon.

Thinking of you.

Never had aspiration pneumonia before. Sorry about it. I guess it needs

antibiotics treatment for couple of days.

Best wishes

HI ,

Did you go to hospital because you couldnt breathe or had your

temperature soared. I would like to know in case it happens to me,

because I want to get to hospital in time!!

Wow that is a very scary experience!!

That's really a distressing story, Di. Sorry you had to suffer. Bet

it's hard to free yourself from the fear of it happening again!

You might consider getting a pneumonia vaccination. I had heard that

there was such a thing and was considering asking my doctor for it

when he volunteered that I should have one and gave me the shot.

Apparently, it's usually given to those over 65, and they need it

just once in a lifetime. I'm only 60, so he said I might have to

have another later. He didn't specifically say it was because of my

PLS, but I just assume it was since my husband, who is 65 didn't get

one.

All the best!

Aspiration pneumonia is nothing to sneeze at. that is what took don away form

me. He had a g tube but the valve to the stomach decided not to work and he

would have stomach contents come up and he would aspirate it. The ended up

putting a J tube in. (that was major surgery) and kept the g tube with suction

to keep fluids out of his stomach. didn't work. he kept aspirating.

He also was trying to fight a terrible bowel infection , called

c-diff. He had terrible runs and we had to change him about every 15 to 20

minutes. Even with all the wonderful care he got at the hospital and at home

his bottom looked like hamburger. Please all stay well. You don't want to go

through all of this. If something doesn't seem right get to the dr. scream and

yell if you must but make sure you get tested. I don't know how long I will

stay with the group. I am so glad to hear from you all. but it really makes

don's loss hurt all the more.

for those who are worried about me I'm O K . I still have Cindi and the kids

with me and it will probably continue.

love to all and stay well

Interesting Don. Thanks for the info. I WAS VERY lucky this time. I

have a fear of choking now....I guess I need to turn that fear into

a healthy caution and make sure I use bent straws when i drink. Hard

to choke when you head is bent forward.

Take care!

The vaccine will not prevent aspiration pneumonia as it is caused by a foreign

body. The only prevention for it is not inhaling food or liquid into your lungs.
