Hi Barb,

Is it possible for your sister

to join us as well?

Where in Florida are you located?

For the next 2 consults, does she know

if the gynes specialize in fibroids,

ie, AAGL.com, see Dr. Finder or ASRM.com,

see Dr. Finder.

Did she try to call the local/regional hospitals

to find specialists who could perform

myomectomy? How about Interventional Radiologists

who could perform UFE?

The key is accurate diagnostics to determine

size, location, and type of fibroid(s)

MRI, although expensive is a useful tool.

Did the gyne performing her pelvic exam mention

anything about possible adenomyosis? ie a tender

firm enlarged uterus? Fibroids do however,

enlarge the uterus. Uterine size can vary by

age/previous pregnancy. See: NUFF.org, Uterus link.

5 gyne consults all recommending

hysterectomy in Clearwater-St sburg, FL

UFE for 8 cm fundal symptomatic fibroid/1999, age 47

My sister has since scheduled appts. with two doctors for second and

third opinions.

Thanks again for your encouraging words. Ironically we went to a doc for a

second opinion today and it turns out the appt. was for March 23, not Feb. 23!

It's no wonder these docs are so busy... so many women seeking second and third

opinions!

Hi,

My experience was simular. Only I got told hysts 3 times. I found a RE in

another state and had a myo. The difference was that I was a heavy bleeder and

had severe anemia. I couldn't get a UAE. So I chose myo.

If your sis is not having problems because of her fibroids she doesn't need

any surgery. She should just skip surgery and take a wait and see approach. She

should ask these docs how many myos that they do and this may tell her why they

keep pushing hysts (lack of skill). She may never need surgery.

If I had just a little pelvic pressure, I'd skip this surgery.

It sounds like your sister really isn't displaying any kind of major

discomfort! So why would she even consider a hysterectomy? It's

one thing if you've got cancer or there isn't another alternative,

but I would say she start researching her obtions right away. The

1st thing is to find another gyno. What, is a womens life over at

42 just because she doesn't want to have a baby? A fibroid of 2 cm

is no reason for a hysterectomy. Many women have fibroids that are

dormant. They do nothing and are not a problem. If I were her, I

would not let the doctors rule her life. Let her make her own

choices. There is not enough to back this up. Just becuase she

doens't want any more children is no reason to get a a

hysterectomy. I am 43 and had a 10cm fibroid with major bleeding

episodes and bulk symtoms. I found out about UFE and had that done

1/30. I've taken care of the problem and have been able to keep my

body intact. What ever happened to the watch and wait? Just

becuase you have a fibroid doesn't mean you need to do anything. It

gets to a point where women develop severe symtoms that they then

choose to do what is the most sensible for them. Jen

Jen:

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. As I read your message, I

could almost hear myself the day my sister and I left the doctor's office. I

was screaming those exact sentiments even before we had left the building.

We are going for a second, third, and however many more opinions are necessary

until we find a doctor willing to work with us.

Thanks again.

Dear ne:

My suggestion, instead of heading straight for myo, would be to get a second

opinion, right in your " neighborhood. " Please look into

http://www.bocaradiology.com/Procedures/UFE.html. I have not used them (I am in

NY), but I hear they are excellent. I am 49 and had UAE in NY, but am now

taking herbs & supplements as well. I did not have any " undesirable symptoms "

afterwards, other than for the first 2-3 weeks, but that is normal. It's worth

a shot to avoid invasive surgery, if at all possible! Please feel free to

e-mail me at EGT@...

Good luck, Edie

Barb,

In Florida, Dr. Benenati is in Miami and very well

qualified for ufe. I went to him after much research but he was honest and

revealed

to me that this may not be my best option. Im 50, have regular periods, but my

stomach and uterus are really bothering me because of protrusion adn 2 days

of heavy flow. I want my 6 month uterus free of fibroids. Benenati was

concerned because my symptoms werent horrible that afteer ufe I could end up

with more

undesirable symptoms . Anyway, I am getting ready to phone up Dr. Wests

office in New York and schedule a myomectomy in April. He spoke to me on the

phone.

I have confidence in him and his office staff sounds wonderful . I could not

come up with a doctor in florida that is excellent in myo. I dont want to

travel too far. I live in Boca Raton and would be happy to talk to you on the

phone if you want. Just e-mail me at www.princessmomadog@aol.

Good luck. ne
