Guest guest
I was wondering just what is fibroid dengeneration? I found last week that I am pregnant and is something that I need to worry about? I have been having sharp stabbing pain as well. The pain this time seems to be much more worse and it brings me to my knees. I have been taking tylenol and then going and laying down for a couple of hours. I get it really bad at night time as well and I am home alone at night and I don't want to call my hubby home from work just any old pain but is this something that I really need to watch out for or what? This is my first child after trying for 4 years to get to this point and I dont want to anything to happen to me or this baby. Any help would be most apprecaited. Guest guest
Christa, that was an excellent post! You provided some great suggestions. I'm sorry that you had to experience the pain of fibroid degeneration. Like you, I was surprised to find out how little some pain medication affects babies. I found out after my daughter was born, though. I had an ovarian cyst that burst two months after her birth, while I was still breastfeeding. The ER doctor first gave me Toradol, which didn't have an effect, then gave me morphine, which also didn't seem to do much. But she assured me that both pain medications are fine when you're breastfeeding, which surprised me. I'm glad you mentioned that not every pregnancy with a fibroid is automatically considered high risk. The first two trimesters of my pregnancy, I saw an ob/gyn for my prenatal care because I thought the fibroid, my age (I was 39), and my DES exposure added up to a high-risk pregnancy. As the pregnancy went on, I kept passing milestones that indicated that yet another potential risk was not going to be a problem. I also started feeling uncomfortable with my ob/gyn, who seemed a little too eager to use invasive measures unnecessarily during labor and delivery. I ended up deciding to switch to a group of midwives instead, in the 30th week of my pregnancy. I wanted to try to have an unmedicated birth, and I wanted the kind of warmth and support that midwives provide. Midwives are trained to handle the kind of labor and delivery complications that can occur with a fibroid, such as excessive hemorrhaging after delivery. I was very glad I switched, because the midwives had a great relationship with the hospital where I had my daughter. If I had needed urgent care because of a degenerating fibroid, I am sure they would have been wonderful advocates for me. One of them even stopped by to see me when my ovarian cyst burst two months later, even though the midwife group was not responsible for my medical care at that time. Getting the kind of care that fits your needs and your philosophies makes a huge difference in how you feel. Cheryl
Guest guest
A fibroid can degenerate if it grows too large for its blood supply. Larger fibroids are more likely to degenerate than smaller ones. My fibroid did not degenerate even though it grew to 13 cm during my pregnancy. You should talk to your doctor or midwife about any kind of troublesome pain that you experience during pregnancy. Don't ever hesitate to ask them questions. That's what they're there for. They get asked all kinds of questions all the time, so they expect it. They'd much rather have you ask a lot of questions and have a healthy baby and healthy mom than hesitate to ask and then have problems. Guest guest
hi, I hope you have a safe delivery, you are really brave. may I ask you why you didnt choose to go through myomectomy before getting pregnant? I think being getting pregnant with fibroids is a challenge. Christa Acampora running_n_being@...> wrote: This is a response to Kim K regarding fibroids in pregnancy. Pregnant women with fibroids will have different experiences depending upon the sizes and locations of their fibroids as well as the unique characteristics of individual pregnancies. Guest guest
hi there i was pregnant and at 10 weeks suffered a miscarriage - the doctors think maybe due to several fibroids that I did not know I had. My ob/gyn said to not even bother TTC without getting rid of them or else Ill have another miscarriage. How do they know whether its ok to TTC or not?? Does anyone know why she would say that? Guest guest
Hi Lola, Sorry to hear about your loss, it all depends on where your fibroid is..Did yuor Dr do any test to draw her to this conclusion? Where are your fibroids located..that plays a huge factor on carrying your preg to term lola2197 sistermadly22@...> wrote: hi there i was pregnant and at 10 weeks suffered a miscarriage - the doctors think maybe due to several fibroids that I did not know I had.
