You better do some research!!! The endometirian ablation will not

work if you have fibroids!!!!! I can't believe your gyno did not

know this or tell you this!!! Your fibroids are the cause of your

bleeding. Endo ablation is for bleeding w/out the presence of

fibroids!!! I would question your gyno on this or switch!!!!!!!

You didn't say how big your fibroids are. Depending on their size,

can help deterimine what procedure you can choose. I had a 10 cm

fibroid, and a 2 cm fibroid. I had a UFE back in Janurary. My

bleeding problems are a thing of the past and I'm doing great. I

had hemmoraging and gushing periods. So glad it's behind me for

now. Good luck and look into this more!!!

> Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site, and also new to the many

options facing me about my fibroids. I have 2. One on the outside

wall, and one in the wall of the uterus. The one in the wall is

causing me constant blood loss. I've tried several birth control

pills, but unfortunately, they don't hold back the bleeding from the

intramural fibroid. My doctor is thinking of doing an endometrial

ablation. We would like to avoid a hyterectomy if possible. My

question is...has anyone had this procedure done? Can you explain

to me your experiences? What was your recuperation like? And in

your opinion, was it a success?

> My hope is that it will stop the bleeding and save the uterus

without too much pain and down time. Thank you for your responses.

,

You wanted to know about experiences from those who

had undergone Endometrial Ablation.

I had an Endometrial Ablation on April 29th of this

year. I have a 7cm fibroid and endometriosis

(although, fortunately, the endo does not cause me

alot of pain as some women seem to have). Doctor

wanted to do a hysterectomy (I'm 44 years old) but I

wanted other alternatives. Hence, the decision for

the Endometrial Ablation. My symptoms were very heavy

bleeding, passing of 'clots', 'glubbing' when I sit

down, stand up, bend over, cough, etc. Additionally I

had long periods. Lasting up to 2 weeks, then I might

be off for 2 weeks, then period would start again.

Blood count is low - anemic.

The doctor tried 2 different machines/procedures on me

while I was under anesthetic. Apparently my fibroid

(about the size of a fist) has greatly enlarged my

uterus, and as a result the standard

machines/procedures could not get close enough to the

lining of the uterus to 'burn' it. My doctor told me

that he would also have to tie my tubes in order to

have the Endometrial Ablation, because once the

procedure is done, the uterus cannot 'hold' a baby -

and there would be spontaneous abortion. I believe he

must have tied my tubes first, and then attempted the

ablation - because the ablation was unsuccessful, BUT

my tubes WERE successfully tied. So now I cannot have

children BUT I still have the bleeding, which was the

problem in the first place. How annoying.

As far as pain, etc. My surgery was on Thursday,

around 12:30 and I was released from the hospital at

5:00. I went home and slept. The next a.m. (Friday)

I took one pain pill (Vicodin). I just took it easy

for the weekend. I was told I could return to work on

Monday, but decided to take 1 more day to 'rest.' I

was fine to return to work on Tuesday. My doctor did

tell me that I could expect some 'weeping' from the

uterus post-procedure and there would be some light

blood, but that was normal. My 'weeping/blood

discharge' lasted 3 weeks. I did call the doctor once

to check on that because I felt that 3 weeks seemed

like a long time to me. But he assured me that was

normal. The only MAJOR discomfort I had was from the

intubation (the tube they put down your throat when

you are under anesthetic). I had an incredible sore

throat for several days, and there were raw/bloody

spots in the roof of my mouth. It hurt to swallow.

The doctor said that the anesthesiologist did not

mention that my intubation was difficult and they

usually mention it if it was hard. After 1 week it

went away. I just did salt water rinses and tried to

only eat creamy things (like pudding, ice cream,

mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc.)

Unfortunately I just had my first period since the

procedure and the symptoms are the same as they were

before the Ablation. So I would have to say it was a

failure. BUT as far as recovery, etc. I was satisfied

with the way I was handled by my doctor and the staff

at the hospital. The recovery was easy.

As a side note, one of the girl's in my gyno's office

had the same procedure done the same day that I did

(Thursday) and she WAS back at work on Monday. She

was quite pleased with her recovery. Said she didn't

take any pain pills at all and was back doing normal

routine on Saturday night. (Okay, so maybe I'm a

wimp!) But all in all, if my procedure HAD been

successful, I would recommend it to others. Just the

size of my fibroid, etc., made my procedure

unsuccessful.

Hope this helps you.

I had an endometrial ablation 6 years ago to stop very heavy bleeding. It

worked. I only needed mild pain killers the first day home and only bled lightly

for about 2-3 days. I have not had a period since. I only spot a very tiny

amount when I ovulate. Of course I don't know if I had fibroids then, the doctor

never mentioned it and I never asked since I didn't know about fibroids.
