I have bladder spasms and take Urispasm twice a day. If I am also on

target taking muscle relaxant then I'm in control. My problem

involves spasticity of the bladder muscle unrelated to the volume in

the bladder. For example last evening I was an hour late on Zanaflex

and had just gone potty. 15 min. later the bladder muscle spasmed so

off I flew for a little dribble.

Others use Ditrol or ditropan which works on all bladder incontinence

issues.

Hope than helps

le, Yes most PLS women have bladder problems don't know about the men

but like some others have said they take a bladder control medication. I

take Detrol LA it helps a little but I've learned to go as soon as I feel the

urge.......Flora

le, I have an overactive bladder and have to get up about 3 or 4 times a

night. I used to blame it on having a vaginal hysterectomy in 1986 but it

probably was this neuromuscular thing all along. I am on antidepressant

medication so get up and then go right back to sleep without any problem. I've

been on diptropan but had problems with it. in NC

Yep, as many men as women with PLS have them too from what I have seen.

I had bad problems with urgency but now much improved with LDN, though

it took about 9 months to make an appreciable difference.

Ok, I cannot seem to determine whether or not i have bladdar prob and have been

trying to figure this out for quite a while now.....for several days in a row, i

have this urgency and go potty and there is hardly a thing or the urgency and

really really go. flip flop that with several days of hardly going at all and

really not feeling so much like i have to go until my lower tummy gets ouchy.

this doesn't seem to change no matter the amount of fluids i consume (have

done repeated trials of this to see). so i cannot present to doc that i have

urgency, when part of the time i don't. it is very bizarre so i just continue

to monitor for now. transferring from chair to potty over and over again is not

my idea of a good time, especially where my arms are at the moment, so gotta say

that other than the ouchy tummy, i rather enjoy not at all feeling the urge to

go for a couple days in between.

i don't take anything for bladder issues, as i cannot determine what those are

at the moment. just thought i would share to see if anyone out there might at

all experience something similar?

thanks,

This is my experience. I too have " urinary urgency " I can sit in my chair

watching TV or working on the PC for a long time after I get the signal that

I have to go.

But once I get up it becomes " urgent " I reach the toilet slowly & everything

connected with that journey like opening doors, switching on lights

.........oh ...........no ...........

I was searching for a reason for this. (Why no hurry while sitting & the

hurry-burry once I get up)

Last year I caught on TV a senior urologist answering phone in question of

viewers. I learned that urine flow out is controlled by 2 valves. One is a

sphincter valve which a normal person can control at will.

Another is a valve which remains shut when one is seated on a

chair/sofa/car, as distinct from a toilet seat where the bottom is not

supported.

I cannot pass urine while seated on a regular seat. Last year I had to

travel for about 8 hours & I had adorn an adult diaper. I had to lift my

butt a few inches up in order to pass. Sitting .......urge was there but no

flow.

I have put all these together & have come to the conclusion that the effort

of having to plod my weary way to toilet & my engrossment in TV/PC makes me

postpone the trip.......(when I was normal I would have finished the job in

a jiffy & wouldn't even have given a thought to it)

Now I go at the very first signal.....

Thanks for your comments and for letting me know that the overactive

spastic bladder is part of PLS. The doctor gave me medication for it

which is working just fine.

Thanks for your e-mails which really help me learn about the

everyday challenges of PLS.

Have a great day!

Whether I have PLS or HSP, I find it interesting that I have no

bladder problems and I have had my illness for going on 11 years now.

I know that bladder problems are a strong symptom of HSP but was

surprised to learn that its the same with PLS also.
