Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am Amy and I live in Tampa. I had my myo on April 14th. I was scheduled for a hyst and at the last minute decided to try for a myo. I saw my dr for a pr-eop the day before surgery. Things were kind of crazy and rushed. He was afraid of cancer because of a mass on my ovary and a enlarged uterus. I had a melt down right before the pre op and did not want to lose my uterus, if possible. I only had two small, golf ball size fibroids. The dr. was great about it. He told me the myo had a longer and harder recovery and a chance for more complications. He said he had experience and like doing myos. We made a deal. I told him if it was very complicated and looked to messy to do, he could do the hyst. Well I woke up to a smiling dr. The mass on the ovary was an endometrial or chocolate cyst. He removed that and did a myo on the uterus. The only major problem has been the blood loss. He would not even tell me how low my blood count was. He did not want to transfuse me. I am taking giant iron pills. The extreme anemia is scary. I am still very weak. He said it will take at least 6 weeks to build back my iron stores and 3 to 6 months to feel myself again. I am 45 and have two teens and a 19 month old baby. The hardest thing has been not being able to take of my baby. was adopted from Vietnam at two months old. My parents are here now and my older daughter and husband have been helping, but I still try and do too much. Well that is my story. I am glad to have found this group. Guest guest
Hi Amy, Welcome to the group. I am glad your parents are there to help for a while until you regain some of your strength. Congratulations on a successful myo. Have you joined the " Meet-ups " ? http://uterinefibroids.meetup.com We need 5 people to get an official meetup. Also, may I ask who your doctor was? I am still looking for a doc as a possible back up after my UAE. Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome. I had been to two drs before I found the one I liked. I don't know yet how good he was. I guess time will tell. I do like and trust him. He was recommended by my primary care dr. His names is Gitomer. He has a new office near citrus Park mall. The first dr I saw, a woman who everyone loves, spent 5 minutes with me and said I HAD to have a radical hyst. Gitomer spent more time with me and seemed to care about what was important to me. He is well respected at St. ph's Women's hospital. I do worry that I did not research enough docs, but he had me in such a panic to get the surgery done. Who is you dr? Guest guest
Thanks Amy, I think I have come across his name. I was not able to find a doc I trusted and I had an embo. I saw two IRs both whom I felt comfortable with...Dr.Black (Tampa General - did a friends Embo) and Dr. *Jerry* (Neidzweicki) Safety Harbor/Mease Countryside - did another friend's Embo. I went with Dr. Jerry as he was closer to my support (I have a nurse friend that worked part time there when I had my embo).
