Guest guest
P, I've taken a anti depressants but I took it for my uncontrollable laughter and crying jags. I wasn't depressed just had that emotional liability issues. For me it didn't seem to do anything for those problems. Some have used them and have had great success. Why does your doctor feel you need them, I mean his reasons for bringing it up? Flora B.

I am an aussie and the one I take is not available in the US. But others here will tell you what they take. From memory, Zanaflex seems to ring a bell. Guest guest
I was dx'd PLS four years ago and my doctor put me on Zoloft. I, like you, did not feel depressed, but many have said that I am much easier to get along with when taking Zoloft. Since being dx'd PLS, my health has gone to h**l in a hand basket. Now I'm dx'd with type II Diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, seizures, and this past March experienced kidney failure. YES, I do religiously take my Zoloft, and I do feel better about life in general. My profession was in sales and doing a lot of talking, which I miss. Setting around the house and being mobile with a scooter or wheel chair causes one to be depressed. The computer helps immensely and again so does Zoloft. We all talk about these immune deficiency diseases (PLS, HSP, ALS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc) having similar characteristics and all of them require some form of anti-depressant medication of various strength. The point of all this is this morning I took my 80 year old father to his first neurologist appointment to determine his degree of dementia. Discussion with this doctor was very interesting. 70-80 percent of adults over the age of 65 have some sort of dementia. I'm 60 and I already have it. I can not walk (or wheelchair) to the other room and forgetting what I went there for, L.O.L. Can you visualize me in a wheel chair talk my dad to see a doctor? All the nurses tried to take my vitals, thinking I was the patient. Anyway, the doctor also stated that a lost of memory is caused by the lack of B-12 and blood test answers this question. Another loss of memory is due to DEPRESSION, determined by a visit to the neurosych. My dad is very depressed and he well not admit it, and most people deny depression. We also have to get a MRI to see if something bad is going on in the head. Anyway, I do not post a lot, enough of my rambling, just thought this maybe of interest to some. Guest guest
hi linda p, i have a history of depression pre-illness, so i am on lexapro 20mg.....do struggle with the uglies, but nothing like i have in the past. i have tried not being on the anti-depressant meds and about 6-9 months later, there is a very ugly major depressive episode. i recommend them if you can tolerate them as they also have been known to assist with nerve issues. tawny email from Tawny Swain Castle, Florida anti depressants Hi all, I don't write much but I read all. Guest guest
Hi : I do not consider myself depressed either, nor does the specialist but he put me on Effexor to help control the crying and laughing episodes He said depression is when you don't want to be at all sociable, have lost interest in most things and all you want to do is stay in bed and be alone. THAT IS NOT ME............on the contrary I love people and being sociable. Before the Effexor my emotions were terrible and very hard on my family and close friends, but since taking the medication it has made a huge difference. I still get emotional at times, but I once again feel I am in control. Hope this information proves helpful for you. Take care. Jo. anti depressants Hi all, I don't write much but I read all. Guest guest
Hello I have been DX in March and your question is also interesting for me to see the progression of other people. I am 63 and live in High Point. I was DX at Baptist Hospital-Winston Salem University Medical Center and Dr Caress is my Neuro doctor. Where do you live in NC? What is your history and progression. Mine is in my lower legs and feet affecting my walking and balance. I am a Shag dancer and now I am back to basic steps, no fast steps. Guest guest
Hello Rich, I live in n (east of Hickory and west of Asheville).I am 45 yo, I was DX with this stupid disease 9/04 after 3 dr. 2 nuero and 3 mri--and confirmed 6 months later in 3/05. Started as a stutter in speech and slurring of words. Then began falling off ladders at work and falling while running on a soccer field as a ref. Currently I wear afo's (sometimes), I use a cane and a walker-and when I dont I put bandaids on my knees when I fall. My grip is weak and my movements are slow (says my wife)I stopped work because I almost killed myself from nearly falling from a 35ft platform (I was in maintenance) I take 80mg of baclofen,50mg of Luvox because I have developed OCD, and 10mg of Amitriptyline to dry my saliva so I wont cough. But all those anti-depressants keeps me happy. I currently attend a als clinic in charlotte with a nuero named Rosenfeld. Thats my story--thanks for asking. richjodon@... wrote: Hello I have been DX in March and your question is also interesting for me to see the progression of other people.
