Dear Sonja:

I trust that some of the " ttc LOL " can address your pregnancy questions by

giving you some relevant information on the subject, as well as their own

experiences.

I thought, as fellow patient, I'd address your " PID " (Pelvic Inflammatory

Disease)inquiry.

Sonja, many, many years ago~ (In fact, soooo long ago, it dates back to

" Ancient ROMA History " )--and it was certainly in my " BF " (Before

Fibroids)Epoch---anyway, way back when, I used to rely on my wonderful GP for

all my pelvic

and Pap exams.

One particular time, ( about the time that I FIRST was diagnosed with

fibroids), I was having some non-specific pelvic " achiness " , and I convinced

myself

that I might have PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease).

Now, WHY did I think that? Did I have any risk factors? No. Had I been

previous diagnosed with PID? No. Did I know anyone with PID? No.

So WHY did I conclude I had PID???? Probably, um...... because, uh...

well...it was the only uterine pathology I knew of at the time!!!!! Quite the

" deep

thinker " , huh???!!!!! Ha! Ha! Ha!

And how did I HEAR about PID???

Would you believe.......

" The Phil Donahue Show?--it was one of his shows completely dedicated to PID,

as I recall.

(Hey, when there was nothing else available, " back in the day " , good 'ole

" Phil " and his show was a great resource for women's health information. Of

course, as many of us remember, his was ALSO

the first national talk show to discuss AIDS on air.)

Hey, and I bet Phil would have had Carla Dionne on HIS show, dontcha kind

think?.........

Hmmmmm, but I digress.

Anyway, back then. you might say, I kinda jumped to a hasty, uninformed and

worrisome conclusion, on my own, with my limited information.

But, my wise GP performed the pelvic exam, and reassured me that PID was

unlikely to be causing my discomfort, as I did not have " the

chandelier " syndrome "

" The wwwhhha? " I asked, totally perplexed. He explained to me that PID

typically elicts pain so excruciating, that a woman characteristically reacts to

THE

TOUCH of her pelvic organs by jumping up from the examining table and

grabbing the chandelier.

Or at least he said: " that's what they told me in medical school, anyway! "

Actually, he wasn't making that up! I actually just found this on-line

dictionary definition of " Chandelier Sign. "

" Chandelier Sign " is a clinical sign (a colloquialism) " referring to severe

pain elicited during pelvic examination of patients with pelvic inflammatory

disease in which the patient responds by reaching upwards towards the ceiling

for relief. "

Of course, anything is possible, but, my lay opinion, Sonja, you probably

don't have PID.

Usually it's related to STDs--specifically gonorrhea or chlamydia infection.

Or ascending bacteria after childbirth, unsterile abortion, or IUD usage (the

tail can act as a wick). Uh, this last one may not be a current " risk

factor " --it was in the " Donahue " era, but perhaps IUDs are different

nowadays....maybe

someone can enlighten me.... Anyway, as I understand PID wouldn't just

happen, without a precipitating " event " or STD causing the infection process.

The " twinges " you are having sound like minor uterine contractions, which, to

my mind is very, very different from PID pain.

Anyway, I hope that the only " chandelier sign " YOU experience is you and

hubby swingin' from the chandeliers--from the Joy of Sex, not the Agony of PID.

And more than anything else I do hope....... THIS MAY BE START OF SOMETHING,

THIS MAY BE THE START OF SOMETHING....... BIG!!!

Crossing my fingers for 'ya,

-Roma

P.S. Should probably start working on my NUFF fibroid fertility and pregnancy

songs. Fibroidian , mother of twins---YOU, of all LOL DESERVE A SONG!!

(or a medal, or something!!!!)
