Guest guest
Hi Kerie I am scheduled for surgery on July 16th. My uterus is about the size of a 6 month pregnancy. I saw my doctor (a specialist in Laparoscopy in Toronto, Canada -- she has done about 100 in 2/3 years with 5 converted to a bikini myo) about a month ago and she said that I was borderline for laparoscopy but would not hesitate to convert to a laparotomy if the bleeding was uncontrollable. I think that it's worth the effort to try but at the same time, my fibroid keeps growing by the day and I worry that the fibroid (I only have one, fed by the ovarian artery) will be too large by that time and to extract it via lap would be worse than going straight for an abdominal incision (the time under for a open myo is a lot less compoared to a lap myo , especially with a fibroid my size). this is a huge worry and a huge decision. (anesthetic et al) I want to heal faster (such is the case with a laparoscopy), but there are no guarantees that it won't convert over. It's good to hear that you thought it was worth the attempt. I am leaning that way but am very scared and nervous! Thanks for your honesty ... you've brought up issues that I hadn't thought of with lap converted to an open myo. Anybody else have a lap converted to an open myo? Could you share your experience with me, either in this forum or directly?? skykatherine67@... Thanks for your support! sKY:: As many of you know, I continue to have pain every day after my myo on November 18. I basically had 2 surgeries in one because I had a lap. myo that had to be converted to open myo.
Guest guest
If you only have one big fibroid, those are often the easier ones with lap. beleive it or not. The go in, cut it up and take it out. I had several, in several locations. The surgery was going too slowly for them to remove everything but they kept trying. Then I started to bleed too much, so they opened me. Also, they had a problem with the gas that they use for the lap (they " inflate " you with a gas to better see your organs). So I was opened up. Guest guest
A friend of mine told me about how her relative had acupuncture prior to her myo surgery to reduce the blood flow to the area. The doctor commented on it being a " bloodless surgery " . You might consider it to help control the bleeding. BTW, have any of you women with bleeding problems ever tried acupuncture to control your bleeding? I imagine that might be harder though to get success for prolonged periods of time than for a surgery stint. --Ann she said that I was borderline for > laparoscopy but would not hesitate to convert to a laparotomy if the > bleeding was uncontrollable. Guest guest
I should point out that once they decided to open me up (convert from lap. to open surgery, they then got out every fibroid. Guest guest
Thanks Kerie, I guess I was under the impression that intramural ones could not be removed via lap. Good to know it's possible. I feel like my doctors are not telling me everything and I mainly learn from the net. Anyone else feel that way? Kerie, did your doctor put you on oral contraceptives? My doctor prescribed me Seasonale, which is a three-month pill (no period for 12 weeks). Anybody else put on the pill for these? Thanks, JP -- kerie0408 kerie0408@...> wrote: > If you only have one big fibroid, those are often > the easier ones with lap. beleive it or not. > They go in, cut it up and take it > out.
