Hi Pam,

I am starting my fifth week of recovery from an abdomal myo (vertical

too) and feel great. The first week was mostly discomfort and some

pain. I was sitting up the first day and walking by day two. The

second week was far less painful, mostly trying to find ways to get

comfortable when sitting and sleeping. After the second week I felt

great and feel better each week.

Regarding the hospital, I read and brought a crossword puzzle book to

occupy my time. I also brought a long lightweight robe to wrap

around me and wear when I walked the hallways. I brought my own

shampoo and lotions and also brought hair clips as I didn't wash my

hair until the third day--it helped to pull my hair back. Make sure

you bring comfortable sweats or drawstring pants to wear home. I

stocked up on a few loose clothing items that I still prefer to wear.

You sound pretty prepared and will do great. Keep a positive mind

and know that by the end of week 2 you'll be feeling terrific. Good

luck!!!!

Sally

headphones, CD, batteries, candy to suck on, magazines

for easy reading or light book, soft loose and big

clothes for going home, any medicine you take daily,

lip gloss/ chapstick, pencil and paper, (I used their

hygeine stuff...I like the tiny bottles)

Hi,

I was just trying out some keywords (heaphones, earlugs, Aztek)

on the search feature for you and my own old posts. Try:

You may find posts from people giving their accounts post op are

full of tips of what to take nd how useful things were.

tissues, pencil, biro, notebook (Note down what happens on

what days and what it was, as you'll forget sooner than you

think), spare nighties (catheter), dressing gown, spare top for

warmth (thank me later :-) ...Due to drafts, open windows and

fans on other patients with temps), non metalhairband (Maybe

plait your hair for if you get a sweaty back of the neck?), some

people take in their own pillow and I think the reasoning was

germs and comfort), earplugs, headphones, light non funny

reading, platic bag for rubbish/clothes etc, things laid out at

home for visitors to easily find and bring in, visitors bringing in

small flavoured bottled water, different size sanitary towels of

your own, navel high (Tummy will be externally sensitive to the

touch, bloated and with some wsh off dye on straight after

surgery incidentally) maybe one size bigger than usual knickers,

if you have a back scratcher, or long ruler at home find it ready for

when you are back home to save bending down to pick up

dropped objects or getting up to reach things just out of reach

when you are watching TV! , throat lozenges just in case,

a pillow on the car for the journey home and comfy travel home

outfit, easy to slip on shows/sandals/slippers (I had leather flip

flops last summer for this). Your owm wash kit of mild tried and

tested products, wet flannel bag, showering is easier than baths.

I had a water sprayer bottle from the local high street chemist

and now use it for ironing (But that was summertime). Aso

conventional wet wipes and gynaecologically approved

feminine-wet wipes.

Good luck Pam!
