Guest guest
A D&C procedure may temporary stop your bleeding and can be done under local or general anesthesia. I had mine done under NO anesthesia. It took only 2 minutes and great discomfort but I needed the procedure immediately, and my doctor had to run out to deliver a baby. Afterward, the bleeding stopped until I had my myo surgery the next day. Two things you need to consider: 1) Check with your doctor if the procedure would interfere with your being able to get pregnant later. 2) This is only a temporary procedure. You will still need to have that fibroid taken care of. If I were you, I would ask the Gyno about possible treatments if the pills stop working, and iron tablets - for anemia, and find another doctor who is knowledgeable in fibroid treatments for a second opinion. After one week, my fibroid refused to react to birth control methods - pills and patch, and my old Gyno offered me full or partial hysterectomy. I've found another doctor through a referral from this group. Jackie -----Original Message----- From: Brk It all started with the Depo shot. I got it because I thought I wouldn't have a period, WRONG answer my periods got worse. Then I found out I have fibroids and my Gyno gives me a 3 mos supply of birth control pills where I should only have a period every 3 mos right? Well, wrong I have been on the pills for 8 weeks the first 4 were great..but now I am bleeding again bad. To me it seems it has gotten worse b/c I have constant pressure around my bladder. Plus, not to be gross but I bleed in CLOTS. Enough is enough so I called again to my Gyno and she suggested a D & C procedure. Has anyone had one of these? If so what was your experience? Is this the right direction to go? Sorry to ramble. Thanks.

Guest guest
Hi, If you have a fibroid in a certain place, Lupron, BC pills, nothing except removing the fibroid will help. You are not supose to have a D & C as a treatment for fibroids at all. Do a google search and read this www.google.com. There's no way a D & C could have did anything for my fibroid. I would think it would be dangerous for a pendulated fibroid growing inside your uterus. It's not supose to be used for heavy bleeding due to fibroids. I'd think twice about it. I was a heavy bleeder with floods and huge clots. Lupron didn't shrink my fibroid. Nothing stopped the bleeding, same as you. If you haven't, get checked for anemia. Have you looked into UAE or myo? Myo put a end to my heavy bleeding and bathroom trips all the time from pressure on my bladder. It's made a big difference. Ku Brk brkhouse1990@...> wrote: It all started with the Depo shot. Guest guest
Hi, From a search I did: A D&C may be required to diagnosed and/or treat a problem such as heavy or prolonged menstruation, as well as unexplained bleeding between periods. The are many possible causes for these menstrual abnormalities, one of the most common being a hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalance causes a thickening of the endometrium which sometimes causes irregular or prolonged menstrual cycles. Although this can happen at any age it most commonly occurs in young women just starting menstruation and in older pre-menopausal women. Abnormal uterine bleeding is also a warning of various types of growths, which are most often non-cancerous. One of these benign growths are polyps which attach either by a stem or a stalk most often to the lining of the uterus or the cervix. Polyps inside the uterus can usually be removed by D&C. Fibroid tumors are another common benign growth that occurs in the uterus. Fibroids can be silent causing no symptoms, or they can cause heavy bleeding and painful cramping. Although fibroid tumors are sometimes detected during dilation and curettage, another surgical procedure is necessary to remove them. D&C is used for some bleeding problems but not fibroids. Guest guest
Oh, I WOULD NOT have a D&C. I had a D& C under my Ex- Doctor and my bleeding got worse so that I bleed every day for 6 months. Please reconsider and maybe find a different Dr. I had a submucosal fibroid and I found out later that a D& C is the worst thing for the type of fibroid I had. My current Dr. who took out the fbroid by resection said the bleeding probably got worse after the D&C because it just scraped the fibroid and irritated it (I can't remember his exact words but that's the jist of it). Again, I would look for a different Dr. MArsha H Brk brkhouse1990@...> wrote: It all started with the Depo shot. Guest guest
To brckhouse1990: I had a D&C about a year and a half ago after I was diagnosed w/fibroids. From what I know, it is a scraping of the uterus and a look around. My doc did shave a part of my fibroid off and took a biopsy. I did stop bleeding for a month, but then it started right back up big time. A D&C doesn't take care of fibroids.
Guest guest
I think that doctors who recommend D&Cs don't know how to do other procedures, like hysteroscopic resection. D&C has been around forever and is a scraping of the lining of the uterus, often done " blind " , ie, the doctor has no imaging device. On the other hand hysteroscopic procedures use a tiny camera so that doctors can see what they are doing.
Guest guest
Thank you for the great advice. I will do a search and research more.
