Guest guest
I had the HSG last Monday ‹ my experience was that it was uncomfortable but not unbearable. My nurse told me I could eat a light breakfast beforehand. When I went in (it was done by my doc, but at an outpatient surgery center, which I gotta admit, freaked me out a little), I changed into a gown/hairnet combo, and was hooked up to some electrode thingies to monitor my heart rate and a finger-cover pulse monitor. The procedure involved lying in a crazy frog-leg pose, tilted slightly back by a slanted table, while my doctor used a speculum and a small balloon to open up my cervix. My fibroid is causing my cervix to tilt back, so his biggest difficulty was getting into the opening of the cervix with the catheter that floods the dye in. When the catheter touched my cervix, I had pretty bad cramping for a couple of minutes; there was only one instant of very sharp pain, and then I could feel the dye coursing through everything. As I said, uncomfortable but not terrible. The nurse did have to remind me that breathing would be helpful, as I was evidently holding my breath for quite a while. If you have any experience with yogic breathing, it will help! My advice is to not be afraid about taking deep, loud breaths...it took my mind off the sensation that I was being cracked open like a lobster! After the tech shot a few x-ray images (which I got to see immediately afterwards, including my own, suitable-for-framing portrait of my system!), they brought the table back level, made me lie there for a while, then sit up slowly to make sure I wasn¹t going to faint. I got a snazzy pair of disposable panties (²¹s biggest secret!² the nurse said) and a giant pad to wear for the rest of the day (the dye just falls back out all day long, kinda thick and ooky, but no worse than a typical period for me). That¹s it! I drove myself back to work...after getting a nice, fizzy Coke to pep me back up. I had mild cramps the rest of the day. Hope that answers some questions. > > I am having this procedure done next week and was wondering if you > can provide me with information about any pain during or afterwards, > and any before or after restrictions, like eating or drinking? Guest guest
The tubes are free and clear, I'm happy to report, and yes, I got results as soon as I sat up. As a warning/blessing (depending on which side of the fertility fence you're on), both the nurse and two friends who'd had HSGs done told me that the dye sometimes has the effect of flushing out the tubes, and sometimes women who've been trying get pregnant right away thereafter. Happened to two women I know! So I made sure to triple up on birth control... amanda > Subject: Re: Re: Hysterosalpin..comments > > Thx for the great read , i will be getting one done shortly, how were > your tubes?
