Thank you Becky, I feel better knowing that I'm not the only girl in this boat.

It all started about 5 years ago I was diagnosed with fibroids, but they were

tiny nothing to worry about. Then last january my gyno decided that since I

had fibroids and fibroid growth can be linked to estrogen, I should go an a low

dose BCP just to be sure my fibroids stayed tiny. Well soon after that I

became putting on weight and my periods became worse (and in all fairness

they really were never that bad before this). At first I thought my periods

were

getting bad because I was getting heavier, I thought if I lost the weight I

would

have better body functions too.

Not the case, so last september while on vacation (of course) I had the worst

peroid of my life (sounds like a Lifetime Movie) 14 nasty days were all I

wanted to do was die. I couldn't do anything without the fear of bleeding all

over the place. I went to my gyno and she found a golf ball sized fibroid on my

fallopian tube. Ack, that wasn't there nine months ago, and I know lots of

things can change in 9 months, this was a little upseting. So she ordered an

internal ultrasound (good times) and they discovered 2 more that were " large

enough to be named " . Whatever that means, and what did they name them?

they certainly didn't ask me for suggestions. So then I went on the mini-pill

progestrone only. boy that sucked. My skin freaked out, I put on all the

weight I had lost before and the some, and my bleeding became regular

horible periods. All of them were 14 day'ers, and I frequently had to take 2-3

days per month off work. After 4 months of this I went back and my gyno

suggested I see a specialist whom she had been consultingwith about me

since september, and no more hormones, and I went off the pill. That is

when the real horror began. I became anemic, and couldn't hardly do anything

without bleeding, and cramping.

When I went to the specialist, he suggested that surgery might be a good

option closer to the time when we plan to have children, but that any before

that could not insure overall improvement in my condition. I'm not to eager to

be cut on anyway, so this seemed like a fair assesment. We discussed

several options, from premature menopause, to more proesterone, but

decided to try high estrogen continously, with the logic; I'm not using my

uterus now, but want to keep it, but need the bleeding controlled. So far the

bleeding is less heavy, but more sporatic. Not a great trade off, but maybe in

another month or so I'll be feeling better.

Unfortunatly he also said that without aggressive treatment, I will not be able

to

carry a baby to term, if implantation is even possible.

I choose to think positive, and we will just have to jump those hurdles when

we get there I guess.

To Diane:

The best of luck to you. You sound like you've been through a

terrible ordeal with all of your bleeding. I am 45, o children, have

1 submucosal fibroid that also made me bleed terrible like you. I

wish to conceive even at my advanced age. I have been on Depot Lupron

for the past 6 months that lessened the bleeding. I will see a gyn

doc in early May to see about having the submucosal fibroid resected.

I also was on progresterone only pill (POP) birth control. They have

only progesterone only. I could only take it for 1 month. I gained

wt. and my breasts were extremely swollen. Then they switched me to

Depot Lupron (that has some side effects too-what doesn't?).

I know what you mean. When that bleeding and clotting starts and goes

on for weeks at a time, you just want to die because you feel so
