When I had my resection done my doctor told me not to expect my

first period or two to be alot different than prior to resection,

that it could take a couple of cycles before my final results of the

procedure would be known.

Eva,

I had a hysteroscopic resection on my 4cm fibroid and

a smaller one 10/07/03. I also had bleeding for a

couple of days after and my 1st period came earlier

and heavier. The next one was 30 days which was the

first 30 day interval I had seen in years. But it was

extremely heavy and lasted more than 7 days. Every

period since has been heavier with more clots and

longer than before.

I contacted my RE who saw me right away and he did

another saline sonogram and found two more submucosal

fibroids. The new one is 3cm and the other is very

tiny. If your bleeding continues you should be

rechecked. I know other women on this list who have

had abdominal myo's can take up to 4 or more months to

regulate. I don't know if it's the same with a

hysteroscopic myo. I thought that might have been my

problem but it wasn't.

I am in the process of having another resection done

but now I'm having other problems with my health which

might inter fer with the procedure. I will know

tomorrow if I can go through with the resection. I had

a thyroid panel done and it shows that I am

hyperthyroid. I am waiting for the gyn who did the

panel to fax the results over to my RE (a whole other

story which is driving me crazy).

Sonja had talked about submucosal fibroids under the

ones that they removed and how they can pop out after

the surgery. I still haven't talked to my RE about

this but will whenever I have my pre-op. I'm wondering

how many more can " pop " .

For now put your feet up and relax.

Hi Diane,

This is scary. As far as I understand the procedure, the submucousal

fibroids are " shaved off " with an appropriate device. I don't know how

well the surgeon can see the base of the fibroid, how can he/she

differentiate between the fibroid tissue and uterine muscles during

the procedure. If he leaves some fibroid tissue in, it can regrow - as

in your case - really quickly. Could this depend on your surgeon's

skills? Growing a 3cm fibroid in your removed one's place within 5

months - is scary. I hope your thyroid problem can be resolved soon,

so you can go ahead with the new resection. I am so sorry that you

have to deal with these very difficult conditions.

Thank you for the advice to relax and watch for now, and be rechecked

if bleeding gets worst within couple of months.

Good luck,

Eva

Hi Diane,

I just read my own post, and found it very negative. I apologize for

that, it was triggered by the similarity between my case and your case

regarding hysteroscopic resections. I just got scared of going down

the same path (new fibroids popping up in place of removed ones).

I hope everything will work out for the best eventually.

Eva,

Your post was just fine. I was upset when I read about

the possibility of new fibroids " popping " out of the

wall of the uterus also. I was under the impression

from all that I had read that once the fibroid was

removed that was it. But there may be some inside the

wall of the uterus that we can not see and when given

room they will come through. I have read more on this

and have listened to Sonja and her story and felt more

comfortable with it.

It didn't mean that my doctor didn't remove all the

fibroid. I saw the pictures and saw how clean my

uterus looked. Brand new. I also knew my doctor was

very skilled in this procedure (he even taught it at

Baylor College). I wish there was a way to see inside

the uterine wall(maybe an MRI?). I don't know if there

is a procedure that can. Who know's what's lurking in

them thar walls.

I feel lucky that I can have this procedure and that I

don't have to go through an open incision again. The

hysteroscopic resection is such an easy procedure that

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. But now I'm going

to have to wait and I hope the fibroid doesn't get to

big.

My doctor wants me to take care of the hyperthyroid

problem before he continues. So now I wait and see

again. I don't know how long it will take before I'm

deemed " under control " to have the resection done

again. I have an appointment June 2nd with an

endocrinologist and hopefully it won't be long.If Roma

or someone else is reading this please feel free to

comment on the hyperthyroid problem. I'm a bit nervous

about it and would appreciate any info.

So Eva, don't apoligize for your feelings. Your

entitled to them. I understand how frustrating the

fibroids are and to think that more might crop up,

well sometimes that is somewhere we don't want to go.

Just relax and wait another month or so before your

thoughts stray there. Hopefully you will see that your

back to normal!

Good Luck,

Hi Diane,

Thank you for your kind words of understanding.

Just in case you don't know, there is an excellent " thyroid "

group on yahoo: health.groups.yahoo.com/group/thyroid

I am sure you could find answers to many of your questions

there. Balancing hormones are never easy.

I absolutely agree with you, that hysteroscopic resection is

an easy procedure (it was for me). I just want to encourage

women to consider this option if it is on their list. The

procedure caused me about 100 times less discomfort, and no pain,

than just a single period. But nobody should forget, that this

procedure is simple only for an experienced surgeon.

Good luck,

Eva
