I know there have been some posts on this before so interested list-readers can look for them. I've been following posts on this since my myo in December. I did not have heavy bleeding or cramps with periods before my surgery (more bulk symptoms). I had my myo when my period was starting (light). I didn't bleed after the surgery at all until the second morning, when what felt like a normal period resumed. The next period or two were normal. Then I had two light bleeds over six weeks; I think I didn't ovulate that cycle. This is the first time I have EVER had a cycle go off-kilter (though I've had regular mid-cycle spotting for years, which is what led to the discovery of the fibroids 10 yrs or so ago). Then I ovulated (I often get ovulatory discomfort, mittleschmertz), had a somewhat heavier period than normal a month ago, and my current period seems normal so far. Seems like three possible explanations for the off-kilter cycle: 1. Hormones " blipped " as a result of the surgery. 2. Perimenopause beginning normally (I am 48). 3. Perimenopause beginning prematurely due to surgery -- my mom didn't have menopause til age 53 -- of course, I could be in perimenopause for many years before periods finally stop, so hard to know if this is " premature. " Any thoughts?? Sunny
Guest guest
Hi Amy, I bled off and on after my myo (which my doctor said is normal) and started my period right on time (10 days post-myo), although that may have something to do with the fact that I'm on the pill. This is my first period since having one 8cm submucosal fibroid removed and it was already SO much better than any period I've had in 3 years. Guest guest
Are you saying that you continued on the pill the day of your surgery and during the recovery? My doctor had me take my last pill the night before my surgery (this past Thursday the 6th was the surgery). So I basically have my period now, during my recovery. The doctor said I could go back on the pill soon, but the only reason I was on it was to control heavy bleeding and I sure hope this myo works. Meanwhile I do feel like I'm bleeding heavily and I'm definitely have thoughts in the back of my mind that maybe this wasn't the solution. Another problem is that I'm a tampon person all the way, so it is hard for me to judge how much I am bleeding with the pads I am using post-surgery. I'll just get through this and see what my next cycle is like. Guest guest
Yep I took my pill even the day of my surgery. So my period started about a week after. I know what you mean about the pad/tampon confusion. I had the same problem. I'd give yourself till next cycle before you are worried that the myo didn't make things better. My doctor said it can take up to 6 weeks for your uterus to shrink back to it's pre-fibroid size. Give it a little time... alebrije@... wrote:Are you saying that you continued on the pill the day of your surgery and during the recovery?
