Guest guest
Hello Ladies! Well it's been almost a week since my myo & it was the best decision I ever made!!! I remember waking up in the recovery room after my surgery & immediately feeling relief even in my groggy state. I first asked what time it was as I wanted to see how long the surgery took. I went in at about 10:30 am - they probably started at 10:45 am after I went under & the doctor scrubbed up & the time was 1:15 pm when I got my answer in the recovery room so I figured the surgery was about 1 1/2 hours - just like my doctor said it would be. I was thrilled it was all over & my doctor was truly amazing - bedside manner means as much as skill in my book. He held my hand the whole time I was being put under & we were just chatting. He told me in the recovery room he took out 9 fibroids - the ultrasound showed about 3 large ones & we knew there were smaller ones as well but I wasn't expecting 9. I've lost 10 lbs in a week - yeah! He has pics for me that he'll e-mail me - I definitely want to see what I was carrying around inside me the whole time!!! I got home on Friday afternoon & the care I received in the hospital was amazing!!! Nurses are definitley underappreciated by anyone who hasn't had the experience of being in the hospital. I had the push-button morphine which was great - the catheter came out the next morning & then the gas pains set in. That was the worst pain of the whole experience! I had pain up my right side that was concentrated in my shoulder area - it was strange but the pain management lady said it was normal. That day I was up walking every hour to get everything flowing - that was the best advice I used from this group - get up & walking asap so the gas will pass. Thankfully, that night I " fluffed " as one of the nurses called it & I could start eating solid food - I was starving as I hadn't eaten anything since Sunday at 5 & it was Wednesday night! I had a bowel movement on Thursday morning - wow did that feel great & was home by Friday at 1pm. I'm now on the road to recovery & am already bored but I know to take it easy. A couple questions for the group: 1. Did any of you go for short walks in the first couple weeks? I'm finding my uterus very tight - my boyfriend & Mom say it's the healing process & I find that if I don't get up & walk around it gets tighter - some feedback would be helpful 2. I know we're not supposed to drive for tht first 2 weeks but does that include being a passenger as well?? That's it for now & thanks again to this wonderful group!!! To Lai: I'm so glad that your myo went so well & your recovery has been great - don't you agree that the anticipation was the worst part of the whole thing??? I will keep everyone up to speed on my recovery & for anyone that has a myo coming up, please feel free to e-mail off-line with any questions about the specifics!!! cherinvan19@... Have a great rest of the weekend!! Cheryl in Vancouver
