Hi

I had UAE back in October 2002, I was told it was successful and had shrunk

the fibriod appx 80% which I was very pleased about. However, symptoms are

still there... I never had a problem with my period they have been as still

are very regular... However, I am I am still in so much pain... This always

happens after going to the toilet mainly after number two's, or during

intercourse, I have terrible cramps where I double up and feel like I am

going to pass out... these last for approximately 20 mins then ease.... Does

anyone else have these problems or any idea, I am at my wits end... At

first doctors thought it might be IBS but it is not, I am taking hormone

tablets at the moment which is to stop me ovulating and see what happens, I

have been on them for appx month and a half and there has been no

improvement, any help please!!!!

Hi Fiona,

I'm sorry you are still in so much pain after your UFE. Could it be

possible that you have a fibroid on the outside of your uterus

that's in some way near your bowels? I had a fibroid that attached

to my bowel when I was pregnant, then when they removed it during an

ab myo on 2/19 they said it was wrapped around my bowel & attached

to the fat around my colon. In the couple months before my ab myo I

was experiencing terrible cramps with #2s mostly and thought maybe I

had IBS...not all the time but often. It has not happened since my

surgery.

I'd definitely discuss it with your Dr. and also consider seeing

another specialist (GI?) who could maybe check out your colon.

Good luck to you & keep us posted.

Fiona, how about asking your doctor for an MRI to see if anything

shows up in the bowel/uterine area? I'm wondering if you might have

developed adhesions following the UAE. Do you know what type(s) of

fibroids you had? Were any of them subserosal? These are fibroids

that are on the OUTSIDE of the uterus. I believe it's possible in

that case, as the fibroids die, that adhesions might develop.

Have you gone back to the interventional radiologist for his opinon?
