Guest guest
Hi, Marie, the June NYC Meet-Up will be held on Saturday, June 19th at 3:00 pm, hopefully at DT UT, 1626 Second Ave around 85th or 86th Street. This would be a great meeting for you to come to, if you're up to it 4 days after surgery. We're having special guests, as well as a video crew from 20/20! There'll be a per person charge of $20, to cover room charges (with over 30 of us signed up, we needed a space reservation) and that will cover food and beverage as well. It would be lovely to see you there, as well as any other NYC-area fibroidians. I'll be travelling 65 miles to make it to what we're hoping will be one of the biggest fibroid meet-ups yet. To sign up for this meeting, if you haven't already, go to http://uterinefibroids.meetup.com/. Best of luck with your surgery! Leonie > Hello- > Does anyone have any information to offer regarding the New York City meet-up? I will be travelling there for a myo on June 15, and will be there for a week. I am interested in attending this meet-up, depending on how I end up feeling... > Thanks! > Marie from Michigan
Guest guest
> Dear Leonie and all LOL for the NY Meetup: > Please clarify - according to Carla's post (Digest #2603 of 5/20/04), the time was indicated as 2pm-5pm. for Sat. 6/19. Is it 3pm or 2pm? Will a notice be sent out so we can confirm we'll be attending? Also - can anyone provide info on the nearest parking lots? One other question - Carla indicated she would be seeking funding for the event - is the funding to help defray the costs per person, or exactly what is the purpose of the funding? Thanks for any info you can provide, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there! The NYC Meetup is indeed at 2 p.m. and the meeting room at DT/UT has been reserved from 2-5 p.m. As you know, Edie, all meeting notices and confirmations for Meetups are automated through the Meetup site. You must be registered for the New York City location in order to receive announcements via email regarding this Meetup. In checking the Meetup site just now, I noticed your initials listed and that you have indeed voted for the meeting venue for June. Thank you! Voting should close within the week and a confirmation email will then be sent out to all New York City registered members. Please, please, please -- if you have not registered for the New York City June meetup yet OR are registered but haven't voted yet, please do so ASAP! We need as much participation as possible to truly make this a successful Meetup. Remember, even if New York City is NOT the city you would normally register with, if you can attend this June meeting, please change your registration information and sign up to let us know you'll be attending this meeting. As for parking -- since I don't live in NY, I can't really answer that. I do know this cafe is, I believe, two blocks off the subway. It may be easier to take mass transit in OR park somewhere more convenient or less expensive and then transit into NYC. Just a thought. To date, we have not found a source of funding to help in underwriting this event. Because of the size of the group, the manager has opted to require us a minimum reservation fee which includes food & beverages. Actually, every venue I contacted that could handle 30-40 people insisted on the same. We were specifically looking for a NYC venue that could handle beverage service for 30-40 people, allow us to hold a true meeting, and accomodate the 20/20 film crew. Given the desire to allow 20/20 to run b-roll on this meeting (to promote it in their uterine fibroids piece), we could not afford to show up without appropriate reservations and then be turned away due to the size of the group. If NUFF had the funding to underwrite this event, we would. As it stands, NUFF is barren of funds right now and I'll be paying my own way to NYC for this event. If anyone can assist with the funding on this issue, please contact me offline at: cdionne @ earthlink.net (only without the spaces before and after the @ symbol). Thanks for your interest, Edie! Hope to see you there along with all the members of east coast contingency who live there/nearby!!!!! Carla Dionne

Guest guest
Edie, there's quite a number of parking garages in that area -- the Upper East side. Your best bet is to cruise the cross streets (i.e., the numbered streets, 86th, 87th, etc.) and just look for one. The odds are you'll find close to one on almost every block. The garages are so frequent that if I drive in, I won't worry about finding one. But if you want a little more certainty than that, try googling something like " parking garages upper east side " . One of the biggest garage companies is Kinney -- try their website. Prices are lower on Saturdays than weekdays, but I really wouldn't even venture a quess at the hourly rate. Too much variation depending on the section of Manhattan you're in. Car pooling and splitting the parking fee sounds like an excellent idea. Leonie > Thanks, Carla for your thorough reply. Actually, I live in a remote area of upstate NY, like Leonie about 70 miles away, rather far away from mass transit, so I'm unfortunately stuck with my car and dealing with parking garages. So, I'm throwing this one out to the NY area LOLs: Is anyone interested in car-pooling? With gas prices the way they are, this might be a good idea! Also, if anyone out there who is planning on attending this NYC meetup might know of a parking garage in the area, please let us know! Maybe those coming in from nearby counties such as Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, etc. might want to hook up. Look forward to hearing from all of you! > Best wishes, Edie from Orange County, NY > PS: Will we also be advised which day the 20/20 segment will be broadcast, so we can tape it if we're not available? Guest guest
Hi Leonie: Thanks for the info. I'll do a search for garages. If anyone is interested in carpooling from Orange, Ulster, Sullivan or Rockland Counties, please e-mail me. Those coming in from other counties should also try to get together to do the same. See you all soon!
