Hey girls,

Its me again..I've decided to go ahead and get a transfusion before my surgery..

My doctor says I need 2 pints. I only have 1 donor..Are 2 pints 2 much for one

person to give?

you can donate your own blood.. as I recall, I did this, giving one pint 2 weeks

in a row just

before surgery. This was at a time when there were still some concerns about

the safety

of the blood supply. They told me the blood would last that long and it would

not hurt me

to give that. Or you can give one pint yourself and find a friend to donate.

I gave 2 units for myself, too, at 3 and 4 weeks prior to my surgery,

so it's not too much for one person. Just fyi ... the literature I

read from the Red Cross and other sources did say that the general

blood supply is very safe now and may be just as safe or safer than

using a known donor.

Take care of yourself and best wishes on your myo and recovery.

p.s. My iron level was fine for the first donation, but did go down

by the next week, so that's something else to be aware of if you are

having a friend or relative donate on your behalf.
