On/off bleeding fibroids and lost without my OBGYN

Hi,

Would someone be able to share their thoughts and insight on my situation?

I have multiple fibroids that bleed. Last week this was so profuse, that I went

to the ER. Fortunately, the blood work showed that the bleeding was not as

serious as it looked because it came back okay, and I was sent home. Does

anyone experience weeks of bleeding and then have days where it completely

stops? This happens to me every now and then. I should mention that I am on

estrace and norethindrone. Now I wonder whether I really need UFE, or if I can

ride it out with Lupron or some other drug intervention because I am 50 and

perimenopausal. However, I am afraid of Lupron's side-effects.

Another issue that is troubling me, and maybe someone can share their thoughts,

is that during this time, just when I am trying to make the decision of whether

or not to have UFE, my OBGYN has retired. My OBGYN was great - was informed on

this technique as well as alternative and traditional approaches. This doctor

referred me to a colleague who is not at all familiar with UFE and wants to

first perform a hysteroscopy. The reason given for this was to ensure that

there is nothing else causing the bleeding . My previous OBGYN and the second

opinion OBGYN never mentioned this. My IR says that the bleeding is caused by

my subserosal fibroids. Whether or not I get the hysteroscopy is fine by the IR

but this will delay UFE if I choose to get it. Also, this now means two

chances, not just one, of opening myself to a possible infection. Does anyone

have thoughts on this?

I have read quite a bit of the literature (maybe I've read too much) and the

more I read the more frozen I become in making the decision to go forward with

UFE. I have particularly been affected by reading about the possibility (though

very small ) of a necrotic uterus or a serious infection. I feel lost without

my OBGYN.

Thanks for listening.
