Don't let your doctor tell you you need a hysto. thats what they all say so don't be alarmed. Depending on their size, their may be some procedures. I had a UFE the end of Janurary for gushing hemmoraging periods and breakthrough bleeding also. My fibroid was 10 cm's. I played watch and wait, no symtoms until it was 10 cm's. I already have had my 2 kids, so this was not an issue. Anyway, my bleeding and periods are totally normal now and I'm feeling great. Did you know that they discovered the UFE from women bleeding after childbirth (uncontrolable bleeding) they found that this would work for fibroids also. You need to take the matter into your own hands. Find out about your fibroids, then you will know where to start with it. Guest guest Posted May 9, 2004 Report Share Posted May 9, 2004 I have had (am told only one) my fibroid for about 3 years. Dr. first noticed it when it was the size of a quarter. I had no symptoms so he said to watch and wait. April of last year it had grown to 12 cm. About a week later I got pregnant. Freddy the Freeloader (Fibroid) stayed at approximaely 12 cms for quite a while then began to grow (they love pregnancy hormones am told) til by the time I had my c-section it was the size of a soccer ball. Dr. said he could not remove it during the c-section cuz of too much blood (since then I have read of woman who posted a message on this board in Jan 04 that she found, through plenty of searching, a Dr. who did her myo at the same time as her c-section and everything turned out well). I blindly trusted my Dr. and was even convinced that I needed a Hyster (by him). That is until I found Dr. West's website by clicking on a link from Hyster sisters.com wesite. After watching an excerpt from 20/20 with Dr. West on it and browsing his website, I found that not only is it possible to have a myo on a fibroid this big but it is much better option than a hyster (for me anyway). Also, I met with a wonderful Lady (she lives in pretty close to me) that met on this board yesterday and she was kind enough to recommend the Dr. who performed her myo (btw her Dr. was recommended to her by Dr. West!) and she also loaned me three books on fibroids including one written by Dr. West: Hysterectomy Hoax. What kind of fibroid is it? I dont know, I didnt ask my Dr. and quite frankly dont think he knows. He is not a bad Dr at all he just doesnt have much info on fibroids. Or myos for that matter as he recommended a hyster. btw, I am calling the Dr. recommended to me tomorrow. I was diagnosed with a 10 cm fibroid 6 months ago. the first doctor I saw told me to have a myo ASAP, even scared me that it culd be something which grew rapidly, a sarcoma. the second doc. I consulted said there was no need to hurry for myo, that it was a myoma and if I had the surgery before getting pregnant maybe I would face the unwanted consequences of operation such as adhesions that lead to fertility problems. I was confused. and I saw another doctor too. he didnt scare me but said that it was big enough to distort the uterus, so he recommended surgery in 2 months. I am almost symptom free, except prolonged periods. I didnt go to surgery. I have been searching on net. I will have a myo but when? how was your pregnancy? I think you wouldnt recommend me to get pregnant with something which will definitely reach the size of a soccerball, would you? the myo may be more difficult with a bigger size, your doctor must have warned you before, let you know your options. It is good to hear you dont continue with him. But I think there are good doc.s who can perorm successful myos even with this size fibroids. Guest guest Posted May 10, 2004 Report Share Posted May 10, 2004 Dear SV My pregnancy went fine but I was way huge I even carried more ambiotic fluid than a normal pregnant woman, which I think was a good thing cuz it gave the baby more room. Dont know If mentioned that he used the fibroid as a pillow. I did have to go in for ultrsounds 2x a week toward the end to monitor the fluid (and the baby). The c- section was scheduled and done 3 weeks early but my baby weighed 6lbs 5 oz and was and is very healthy. Whether or not you want to get pregnant before you have it removed is really a personal decision but keep in mind it will probably grow. And I did hear of woman on this board that lost her baby due to a stupid nasty fibroid. If I were you I would prolly get it out first. On the other hand I wouldnt go back and change anything cuz I have a beautiful healthy baby boy. But if I did it again I would get it out first. Hope that answers your questions. But when you said how much your bleeding that is not normal even after childbirth. I myself bleed terribly after my second but I was already in the hospital.
