Hi~

I currently have a 3month old (delivered by emergency C-Section). I

have 4 fibroids ranging in size from 7cm to 2cm (they are intramural

and submucosal). I have decided to move forward with a myo to

remove them and thought that I might want to do it sooner rather

than later before my little guy is mobile. I read in your post to

that you waited for your surgery until you weaned your little

one - I am breastfeeding too and discussed that with my doctor who

made it sound like it would not be an issue (I might have to pump

prior to the surgery and pump off BM afterwards that I wouldn't give

him, but that I should be able to continue to BF after). Were you

given differing information than that (I was feeling confident with

my doctor - he's my 3rd so far and I really liked everything about

him, but now I'm wondering if he didn't give me misinformation

regarding the Breastfeeding issue)?

Thanks,

Beth

Hi Beth,

I should have said I 'opted' to wait until she was weaned, not that

I 'had' to wait. I was given the same information as you by both my

Gyn & my lactation consultant - I could pump in the hospital & after

& continue nursing - I just felt it would be too difficult to try to

hold her afterward and am not a big fan of pumping. There was also

some discussion of whether or not I would need Lupron injections

before the surgery (I didn't), and you definitely don't want to have

those if you are still nursing. Originally I only planned to nurse

for 6 months so I was going to have my myo shortly after that. Then

6 months became 9 months, then a year. I think on some level I was

putting the surgery off! :o)

Anyway, your Dr. did not give you bad information. Good luck with

your surgery & keep us posted. Congratulations on your baby! :o)

When I first saw my myo doctor, I was still breastfeeding, too. My doctor told

me the same thing that yours told you--that pumping is fine. As it turned out,

by the time I had my myo, Holly had already weaned herself. We had had a lot of

breastfeeding problems, and I was sort of relieved.
