I posted this to another group . The main thing is that I am curious

of all the tests I have had so far are common for diagnosing

fibroids.

My doctor's office called me because my pap test from March 2nd

showed endometriel

cells. This started a series of test. First I had an abdomonal and

vaginal ultrasounds. After waiting for the results I was told I had a

small cyst on my left ovary and that the right ovary was enlarged. I

was terrified that I had ovarian cancer. I was told to go to the

hospital to have my blood tested because I had to have a CAT scan. I

had to drink a barium solution at 2:00 am and was to have the scan at

8:30 that morning. I didn't have the CAT scan because it turned out

that I actually needed an MRI .My general practioner orderd the wrong

test. Luckily I had the MRI that same

afternoon. The MRI results showed I possibly have a 'truncated

fibroid " and have a cyst on both ovaries. The next Friday I had a

colposcopy and biospy , the doctor said my endometriel

stripe looked good and the biopsy found no cancer. If my Pap test

hadn't come back with endometriel cells then I wouldn't have found

out about the cysts and fibroid. Next I was

scheduled to meet with a gynocologist who didn't like the

term " possible " fibroid. He examined me , took a pap smear and did a

vaginal ultrasound. He said that my fibroid is pushing my ovaries

towards my rectum. He also ordered a CA 125 blood test which I took

on Monday and I am scheduled for another ultrasound in June. I have

had painful periods for 2 years and have gained a lot of weight

especially around my abdoman and urinate frequently but never

thought I had any thing wrong

with me.Now that I know I have a fibroid I feel the pressure all the

time. Has anyone else been asked to take the CA 125 blood test

for fibroids? The doctor assured me that he wasn't looking for

ovarian cancer but that the test can also help determine whether I

have endometriosis.

My gyno has Friday's off so I won't have the results of the blood

test until Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks

WOW!! That seems like alot. I had a CT for a funky kidney, when they

discovered tiny fibroids. Then when I bacame symtpomatic I had the

internal and external ultrasounds exams, as well as a few pelvic

exams. But then again I only have the fibroids to contend with. All

my other parts are fine, even the spare kidney! :)

In my research on the subject of " Adenomyosis " I came across two

references regarding the use of the Serum CA 124 blood test as a useful

diagnostic tool for this condition. I did not have it. In fact, my gyn

disagreed that it would be useful. However, I wanted to let you know

that the information is out there that it " may be useful in detecting

Adenomyosis " --a condition not associated with ovarian cancer.

" Adenomyosis " is often associated with endometriosis because it is a

condition causing the same symptoms, only it grows into the uterine wall,

or " myometrium " .

Hi, I figured that it was protocol, it's a good thing I have great

insurance because I have had a bunch of tests lately. I found out

after I had the ultrasounds and MRI that my younger sister had

fibroids and cysts several years ago. I didn't tell my family about

my cancer scare until I had the results from the MRI and biopsy. I

was terrified before and now I'm just annoyed by it all.LOL

Thanks- Ardette
