The only time I've ever used birth control pills was when I was on a low

dose for about three months as treatment for an ovarian cyst. The cyst

didn't go away, so I had it surgically removed. (When the cyst was removed,

we learned that it was a dermoid cyst, which does not respond to birth

control pills.)

Because of my exposure to DES (a synthetic estrogen) in utero, I use a

diaphragm for birth control. Statistically, it has a higher failure rate

than many forms of contraception, but it's been very effective for me. My

first pregnancy started six months after I stopped using my diaphragm,

after using it for about 16 years.

To yellowbulldogs:

I had been on b/c pills for about 20 years when I was diagnosed with my

fibroids. I had always taken a very low dose pill. But after the diagnosis of

fibroids, my gyn switched me to Lo-ovral since I was having such heaving

bleeding, clotting and long periods. The Lo-ovral at least helped me not to

bleed

between periods. But, on it I gained weight and had an appetite that never

quit.

The doc did say that the lo-ovral is a heavy duty pill and he didn't usually

use it unless someone was bleeding badly. I was on it for about a year and

then switched over to a lower dose pill once I had a UAE and my fibroids were

much relieved.

I had also heard that estrogen feeds fibroids. I also asked a couple of docs

and they said it was not proven. I have several friends that have never

taken hormones and they have fibroids. So, I don't really know. I do not know

if

my fibroids were caused by the b/c pills. But I have stayed on them since

they help me out with not getting pregnant and the period symptoms.

Hi, Nice to find another newcomer. My fibroid was found when it was 6cm

and now, 8 years later it is 10cm. Are your Dr.s suggesting removal? I was

never on the pill but you are right, it makes sense that it is an estrogen

feed. ..........sp

I have been told by one Dr. to get a myo.. before trying to get pregnant. The

other Dr. says no need for sugary just go out there and get pregnant. Who is a

girl to believe. I would love to hear story's of anyone who had babies with

fibroids and if you had any problems. The one that says I don't need it out is

concerned about the scar tissue forming and not being able to get pregnant. I

am planning on seeking other dr. out and learn of their experience's. I live in

Atlanta so if anyone has a dr. recommendations that would be much appreciated.

Hi ,

How large are your fibroids? and where are they located?

These 2 questions play factors on you becoming pregnant and maintaining a

pregnancy

Have you had any test done as yet, MRi, ultrasound

i had the same question about TTC but ive decided to see if im

eligible for some kind of surgery because of the risks of

miscarriage and pregnancy complications. Im working with the doctor

to try to get my uterus in the best possible shape beforehand

because i'm just not willing to take any chances. Thats just me and

it was really a personal decision so I hope that helps!

i have one fibroid 6 cm. seen by 2 ultra sounds. The dr. that told me I did not

need to have it taken out did the ultrasound. The dr. that said I did need it

out has not seen it by ultrasound just felt it. He preceded to tell me all the

bad things that could happen if I were to get pregnant. i.e. placenta detaching,

miscarriage, premature labor, water break early etc.The 2nd dr. also told me it

had grown from a year ago when he last felt it. (now i really dout he really

remembered what it felt like a year ago.) I have found many discrepancies in his

story thats why I am seeking other opinions. Like last year he told me that

after I had the myo. I should heal for 3 months then my best time to get

pregnant would be after the 3 months before scar tissue started to form.(that i

would have less of a chance after that). But this time when I saw him Me and my

husband asked him about that statement he made and he said " No, 3 months after

is the same as a year and 3 months after, and was

not concerned of scar tissue " . If that stuff is true about troubles w/

pregnancy then I can't understand why the first dr. did not say anything about

it at all!

Anyones thoughts would be appreciated.
