Guest guest
Dear Diane, I know the news was not the best when you were told you would need another resection. But believe me, it will be worth it. I had so many submucosal fibs, my doctor could not see or count them all during my sonohysterogram. He told me it would take at least two resection surgeries to remove them all. I was prepared for this, would rather do several resections than one big major ab myo. The resections would be less invasive with a quicker recovery and no cutting through the uterine muscle wall. After the second surgery I had an in-office hysteroscopy exam and my doctor found more fibroids that he did not know were left behind. He explained that after the space in the endometrial cavity was opened from the removal of the majority of my fibroids, other fibroids that were unseen pushed their way into the cavity that were hiding underneath the removed ones. So I faced a third resection. I was not scared, just wanted to get it overwith, and fortunately my surgeon was able to schedule all three surgeries in a four month time period. I went in two months post-resection #3 and had another in-office hysteroscopy exam. And my doctor said my endo cavity looked healthy and ready for a pregnancy. But then as he explored the upper regions he did find two very tiny fibroid buds. He asked me how my two periods had been following the third surgery, and all I had to say was, " It was like I wasn't even menstruating. I thought i was just spotting and then the periods were over! " So he was not concerned with removing these two small fibs at that point. He said they would grow during a pregnancy but should not cause any problems with the baby's development. So now I am three periods post resections. My periods are lighter than they have ever been (lighter than when I was a teenager!) So all those surgeries were worth it. And this is coming from a woman who was put on continuous bc pills because I could not afford to have more than one period a year. If I did, I would bleed with clots so heavily I would have to be admitted for blood transfusions. Had to do that three times. I had severe anemia, prolonged periods like you, life-altering bleeding that kept me home wearing diapers, washing my soiled sheets and clothing every day, dealing with chronic yeast infections because of the constant bleeding, and having no sex life with my newly wedded husband. I was constantly told I needed to have a hysterectomy, but I never gave in, kept holding on to hope that I may find the right doctor who could help me and increase my chances of TTC someday. I lived with these symptoms for years thinking it was not surgically treatable because I was misdiagnosed with adenomyosis. My doctors missed all the submucosal fibs because there were so many of them they appeared on an ultrasound as resembling an enlarged uterus with adeno. But eventually I found the right doctor and he discovered my fibroids. He performed the three resections and now I am a new woman! And I have a new hope of getting pg for the first time! So keep your chin up! Resection surgery is a miracle! I hope your results are as drastically positive as mine have been. I never had a period between the resections because I was on the pill, so I noticed a huge difference from before the first surgery to after the third when I could finally go off of the darn pills. And now all 3 of my post-surgery periods have been four days or shorter, and they are so light I can throw away all my super maxi pads. I only need regulars one day with liners the others. And no more clots! My husband can hardly believe it's my body! Good luck to you my dear. Today is quite a LUCKY DAY! Happy St. Patty's Day! Best wishes, :)Sonja * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To all of you who responded to my C-section questions... A BIG THANK YOU! Your thoroughness and explanations of your own experiences have helped my nerves settle down a great deal about the whole C-section procedure. I am now more excited about the future than ever. I am at the 3-month mark after going off the pill; which I understand is the " magic number " of months most women wait before they get pg after stopping the pill. Unfortunately my dear husband is out of town during the " most fertile " week of my cycle this month, but conception is a funny thing... it could happend any time. but I have learned patience living with these fibroids. So I will certainly have patience with getting pg! Best wishes to all of you and your sweet children. May every day be a Blessing, and may each moment with your children remind you of how special they are. Hugs, :)Sonja
Guest guest
Hi Sonja: The first doctor who did a hysteroscopy and found 1 submucosal fibroid (now shrunk to 2.o cm on 6 mos. of Depot Lupron) wanted to also do a hysterectomy as was recommended in your case. I also, never gave in to that. I wrote a letter to that doctors advising him his recommendation was not correct - remove an organ for a totally benign condition! So I switched doctors. I am 45. Way too young for a total hysterectomy with all it's complications. Never give in ladies....to the hysterecomy recommendation. Read the books about fibroids (I've read 5 already). I've switched doctors. I will see the new doctor on April 8th. Never give into a physician whose first recommendation is " Hysterectomy. " Take care everybody!
