Partial hysterectomy vs. UAE??

Hello all. I'm new to this group and am a 42 year-old african

american fibroid sufferer. I started out with 4 and recently had a

sonogram and found out they have multiplied to the point that a MRI

has been suggested to get a closer look. I do know that I have at

least 2 very large ones. One is so large that it makes it difficult

to have an annual pap smear. I was informed by my gynocologist that

I may want to consider a hysterectomy. I have heavy periods, and

suffer with bladder and bowel problems. On 2 separate occasions, I

was off from work for a week due to the severe pain. I am going to

see if I would be a candidate for the UAE procedure. My sister

recently had that after having a myomectomy several years ago. She's

had wonderful results since having that procedure. After an

additional discussion with my primary care physician, I may not be a

good candidate for the UAE because of the number of fibroids I have.

Has anyone had a partial hysterectomy due to fibroids and if so would

you be willing to share your experience? I'm very nervous about the

prospect of a partial hysteretomy. Thanks in advance for your

replies.

I think that you really need to talk to a doctor that does UAE, an

Interventional Radiologist, to find out if you are a good candidate

for UAE. This is not your primary care physician's area of

expertise. One of the benefits of UAE is that it treats ALL of the

fibroids. If it were me I would certainly give UAE a chance before

having an irreverisble surgery to remove an otherwise healthy organ.
