Guest guest
I had my myo 3 weeks ago with a bikini incision. It was quite long since my fibroid was football sized and 8 others little ones. I did pretty good in the hospital with the exception of the first day. I found out morphine doesn't really work on me, just sedates me but I was in a lot of pain in recovery and the first day in my room until they changed my pain meds. I felt full of energy by 10 days out and wondered why in the world I had taken so much time off work! Still took a nap in the middle of the day, but doing every thing else except no lifting. No more pain meds, I just had the lightest period I can remember in years and I am very pleased that I made this decision to have a myo. My incision looked good all the way up until 2 days ago when I looked in the mirror and saw part of it was reddened....maybe the size of a big walnut. ..the whole thing is numb which I hear is normal. Nothing was really coming out of it, no stitch or discharge. It did look a little moist there. I put a big bandaid over the incision with some triple antibiotic and checked myself for a fever...none. My surgeon is on vacation and said he had coverage, but I decided I'd wait forr him if I needed to call. Im 2 hrs away from a recheck office call, anyway. its gotten a little bigger and streakier over night, still doesnt hurt. I thought I'd call today and maybe go in for a check if they want to look at it. I should say although it is a bikini incision, the incision itself is right into my midrif fatty part so if its infected, its an infection in fat which sounds bad to me! Any insight? Thanks Maureen
Guest guest
Maureen, I don't have experience with surgery, but you mentioned " streakier " . That sends up a red flag for me. If there are streaks, get to a doctor fast. My son once had a small wound that send out a red streak. His elementary school secretary called me and suggested that I take him to a doctor. I did and he was instantly put on antibiotics. I had to keep him out of school for a day and kept a very watchful eye on it. You don't want the streak(s) to get to a lymph area. I don't mean to scare you and maybe what you have is something totally different. But check with your docter soon. nne My incision looked good all the way up until 2 days ago when I looked in the mirror and saw part of it was reddened....maybe the size of a big walnut. the whole thing is numb which I hear is normal. Guest guest
Call! I just had a myomectomy w/ a bikini incision 2 weeks ago and I did get an infection while I was still in the hospital. It got red and hot very quickly. Don't take a chance - call! > I had my myo 3 weeks ago with a bikini incision. It was quite long since my > fibroid was football sized and 8 others little ones. Guest guest
Maureen, Call the Doctor ASAP...I know you said he is out of the office but I am sure you could speak with his nurse. I would not let this wait....it maybe nothing...but you want to be sure...you really don't want an infection. Better to error on the side of caution. > I had my myo 3 weeks ago with a bikini incision. It was quite long since my > fibroid was football sized and 8 others little ones. Guest guest
I would see someone, regardless of whether they are the hospital, a GP, a nurse at the surgery or even a pharmacist would be something. The Goodwin, Broder, Drum book " What your doctror may not tell you about fibroids has a paragraph on post operation suspected infections. I don't have it with me right now to quote. It mentioned an increase in redness and soreness, a situation where a patient may get a yellowish discharge that may even smell from the wound, or perhaps patients may find they have a clear type of dicharge from the wound. Err on th side of caution and have someone have a look and advise on the best way of dealing with it. I had a spot on my scar on two diffeent occasions in the same place, which has made that part of the scar redder. This sounds too large for a spot to me and it's best not to let an infection go untreated. I'd start with your General Practitioner Aztek > I should say although it is a bikini incision, the incision itself is right into my midrif fatty part so if its infected, its an infection in fat which sounds bad to me!
