Guest guest
I participated in an online chat with Dr. West and asked that question. He replied that he does not believe in its use as it tends to turn the fibroids into jello like material and makes it more difficult to remove and see smaller fibroids at the time of surgery. You might want to check out his site and register for his chat. As I recall I was left with the impression that the most skilled surgeons do not use this prior to myo. http://www.repmed.com/index.html best, suz > Hi everyone, > I'm looking for some feedback on Lupron shots in treatment of > fibroids pre-surgery. Cheryl: My submucosal fibroid shrunk from 3.4 cm to 2.0 cm. because of Depot Lupron. I had 3 shots so far. After my first shot (11.25 mg. 3 mos. injection) I had occassional headaches (nothing unbearable though) and some hot flashes (not major). I had occassional cramping (the fibroids were being shrunk). My short term side effects from the Lupron were minor. The Lupron shrunks my fibroids nicely. The major benefit from the Lupron was that is stopped my hemmoraging - I bled terribly from the submucosal fibroid. It took 2 months after the Lupron injection for the bleeding to stop completely. I takes awhile to for the Lupron to work - my doc told me it would take 8 wks for it to begin working. I scheduled for a resection on 3/23/04. I hope this info is helpful to you. Lurpon is controversial. There could be bad long term effects that I was reading about. Ask you doctor for the drug manufacturer's pamphlet on the drug so you can review it and the associated risks before you get the injection. Guest guest
Thanks Jeanne for your feedback. I'm going to be getting the 3.75 mg/month Lupron shot & your story sure makes me feel better!!! I read that Lupron makes the fibroids like jelly but who knows - everybody's different. I did read the pamphlet online & they say that 98% of women in the studies they've done do experience hot flashes - I guess when menopause comes for me in twenty years I'll know what to expect! Guest guest
Hi, My experience with Lupron was bad. It didn't shrink my fibroids or fully stop my bleeding. I had all the side effects and my memory loss was severe. Most docs don't believe it's useful like Dr West said. Do a www.google.com search on it. You need to take calcium with it and this is important. You'll get a wide range of differences with it from women on this board. I wish I never took it myself. Guest guest
Hi, I had the 3.75 mg shot each month for 6 months total. I did have some moderate hot flashes and some night sweats during months 4,5 and 6 but no other side affects. My fibroids had shrink some at my 3 month check up but I don't know exactly how much. > Hi everyone, > I'm looking for some feedback on Lupron shots in treatment of > fibroids pre-surgery. I had some side effect like penn in my legg any time on the side that got shot in the first twoo months. The 3rd month, I didn't even feel no peen in my leg, But I was taking it with ferrous sulfate and alot of C vitamine. In fact I was seriously in anemia from heavy bleeding, tireness, Weekness, the Dr told me it was to stop first my periode to collect some blood count and then have my surgery. Guest guest
Hi...I took the 3.75 mg shot for 3 months prior to surgery. The fibroids did not shrink...they actually grew. My periods did stop so I was able to get my iron levels up prior to surgery. I did have hot flashes but nothing too bad at all. Best of luck! > > Hi everyone, > > I'm looking for some feedback on Lupron shots in treatment of > > fibroids pre-surgery. Guest guest
Hi Ladies, I am on Lupron since tree months, that was to shrink my fibroids unfortunatly it didn't do it, but stop my periode prior to surgery schedule on March 02nd because I have a verry low blood count. Actuelly I am not so sure that the same Doctor will perform my surgery, he told me the last visite if I'm bleeding alot and he could not stop bleeding he will take my uterus out, that make me feel so so scare, I wrote to let the Groupe know about that situation, alot of sisters from the Groupe told me to walk away and find the second opinion, that is why I contact another Doctor but we're not yet far for it because I need to get back my file medical first what is not so easy too. My question is I am going to stop taking lupron and don't know yet what is going to happen in my body will waiting the time to make evry thing happen with my new Doctor ? Please, Ladies, any suggestion will be helpful. Guest guest
Instead of Lupron try Megace. Lupron made little difference in my bleeding as far as I could tell but the Megace did help. It wasn't a complete stop always but it wasn't standing in pools of my own blood either. If you take it on time it works well. --- nne Emilienne Kenfack juliekenfack@...> wrote: > My question is I am going to stop taking lupron and > don't know yet what is going to happen in my body > will waiting the time to make evry thing happen with > my new Doctor ? Guest guest
Miranda, I took Lupron for 3 months prior to surgery. It did stop my period after the 1st month. I also had one other brief bleeding incident that my Doc. said was fibroids degenerating and shedding. The Lupron did not shrink my fibroids on the outside of my uterus though, they continued to grow. However, my iron counts did go up. The only side- effects I had were mild hot flashes. > I just went to my new dr. today & he said he wants to put me on > Lupron after my period ends to shrink my large fibroids
Guest guest
Hi Miranda, I just joined this group few days ago, and I have enjoyed reading everyone's experience and comments. I had a myo about 7 months ago, but three months before the surgery my gyn put me on Depo Lupron to shrink my large fibroids. Some of my side effects included night sweat, hot flashes, lack of sex drive and I gained about 6 pounds within those three months. Honestly I couldn't wait to get off the injection because of the side effects, but it did the job. Each person's experience might be different. --- mkmorris00 mkmorris00@...> wrote: > Hi, I just went to my new dr. today & he said he > wants to put me on > Lupron after my period ends to shrink my large > fibroids. Guest guest
Hi, I am also in a similar position. My doctor is recommending Lupron. Is there any literature out there on how lupron afets fertility once you get off of it. Any other comments about side effects of Lupron would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi - I was on Lupron for 3 months prior to my myo. It throws you into menopause (temporarily), but supposedly the hot-flashes are a lot worse than they would be under your normal menopause. I had bad hot flashes during the day, and terrible night sweats (had to change shirts at least once a night usually). But, it stopped the bleeding, which was a more than welcome change for me. And I knew that this discomfort was temporary. Good luck!
Guest guest
My doctor mentioned nothing about Lupron & fertility. I really think it depends on how long you are going to be on it. I have had 2 out of 3 shots & feel fine. I do get hot sometimes but it may be just the wacky airconditioning system at work.. Other than that, I've had no other side effects. They say that your period stops but mine hasn't yet - I wish it would!!!! If you have any more questions, drop me an e-mail at cherinvan19@.... Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. How large were your fibroids? Are you ttc? I want to have children after my surgery so I was just curious if your fertility was preserved. Guest guest
Hi Miranda, First of all, what is ttc ? Sorry I'm still trying to understand some of the terms and abbreviations used in this forum. I had about 5 fibroids of different sizes. The largerst was about 9cm right below my navel. As for fertility, I asked my doctor last week during my follow up about fertility etc. He told me that I can have kids whenever I want, so I guess my fertility was preserved. Now time will tell. --- miranda morris mkmorris00@...> wrote: > Thanks for the reply. How large were your fibroids? > Are you ttc?
