If you have a bicornuate uterus and have had bleeding early in

pregnancy, what explanations have you been given by your providers?

I just don't undrstand how one side can shed it's lining when the

hormones that are meant to sustain it are at such high levels. What

knowledge do any of you have on this subject?

Thanks you

Hi Alison,

I was told the same thing by my ob/gyn when I started bleeding at 6

wks & they suspected I had a bcu (it was actually a septum when I had

lap/hyst).

My new RE told me that isn't true & any bleeding has a reason.

They found that I have a blood clotting problem & will need heparin

during the next pregnancy. I'm also on baby asprin during ttc.

Some women seem to have unexplained bleeding & get through it.

Others don't. If you're pg, I'd encourage you to keep asking for

answers & (if not you're not already) see a Perinatalogist.

Best of luck to you,

W, ttc on my own for now

My doctor gave the " the other side is trying to have a period "

explanation to me as a possibility. But it was a possibility only

kind of thing. My progesterone level was low and after the spotting

I was put on a supplement. I personaly think I had the spotting

cause I was over doing it. I had started a new exercise regime just

before finding out I was pregnant and I think that had a lot to do

with it. My bleeding was at 6 weeks.

Thank you for your responses. Here's a little background. I have

lost two first trimester pregnancies. 7wks and 10wks. I am close

to 6wks preg again. I have been taking baby aspirin since my last

loss and started the Lovenox last week because of clotting issues.

I had some light brown when I wiped the other day and yesterday I

had a little more that was more red. Not bright red, but it wasn't

brown either. I bled like this in my second preg and even worse,

passing clots and everything and things were still OK for a while

after that. I am going to try to schedule an appt with the Peri for

next Monday and get some things straight. I'll let you know how

things go. Until then I am trying to take it easy.

Thank you so much for your feedback :)

Hi there,

When I had my first drs. appt at 9 weeks, I was sent directly to a peri dr.

because I had unexplained bleeding. They did a u/s and told me I was UD....after

several more weeks of bleeding (never severe, more or less spotting) I got

frustrated with the lack of answers I was recieving so I switched perinatal drs.

The old ones only told me that sometimes bleeding happens due to implantation

issues and shedding on the empty side, etc...

I was almost 16 weeks when I had my first appt at the new dr., thankfully by

then the bleeding had stopped. They suspect I'm BU, and were surprised that

nobody tried to find out what was causing my bleeding. In any case, if you are

unhappy with the answers you get, change drs....I'm much more confident with the

new ones. I'm almost 21 weeks right now (knock wood), and I see them every other

week. The old dr. only wanted to see me every 4-6 weeks ! So, in any case..best

of luck to you. Keep us posted !

I have a bicornuate uterus, and at 6 wks was diagnosed with a

subchorionic hematoma, its a blood clot in the uterus and bleeds out or

gets reabsorbed. did they do an u/s on you? My doctor told me my hematoma

was caused by my Bicornuate uterus.

with both my pregnancies ive never had one side shed its lining.

You might also have low progesterone, which i also had.

Keep us updated! your in my prayers!

when you say you have a blood clotting disorder, do you mean you had a

subchorionic hematoma?? that causes you to bleed alot and pass large

clots. If so i have a wonderful support group i could give you the

webpage, and anyone else who has a subchorionic hematoma.

Alison,

It sounds like you are on the right path & a Peri is definitely the

best choice.

When they found I had a clotting problem during my 2nd pg it was too

late. The baby didn't have a heartbeat but all of the testing the RE

did ruled out many things & found the clotting problem.

She also suspects that my first loss at 21.4 wks was from the same

problem. I had several severe bouts of bleeding with him. She said

the clotting will cause problems with blood flow to the placenta &

can cause it to detach. It breaks my heart that a simple blood test

could have found this the first time.

Too many times docs think problems & miscarriage are just a normal

occurance & do nothing to find out why. It's up to us to push for

the answers.

I'm glad you're doing what you can & I wish you much luck with this

baby. I'll be saying a prayer for you as well as all of us who are

ttc or pg.

I am so sorry for your losses. What a tragedy.

My records are being sent to the Peri as we speak. I should be ale

to get in within the next week. I went into my OB yesterday

afternoon for an U/S just for reassurance. Still too early to see a

heartbeat but the gest.sac and the yolk sac were present. Going

back next week for another one. I'm having my levels drawn today

and Sat to make sure they are going up. So I'm feeling better about

things for the moment. We also found out it is on the left side.

My other two were on the right. I have two very distinct horns.

The split goes all the way down to just above my cervix. They

connect as one canal, but just barely! I have some great pics of it

from my lap. I'll post them one of these days.

What is your clotting problem? I have elevated anticardiolipin

antibodies IgM. That is why I am on the Lovenox. What have they

said will be your route of treatment next time?

Thank you for the encouragement and best of luck to you!
