My son had a grand mal seizure in March (first ever seizure) followed by one

15 sec adsence. I give him Taurine 1000mg in the Am - no problems since.

(Fingers crossed)

Mandi in UK

Ny 6 year old had a absence seizure at school. I think now what I

thought was zoniness is seizures. I am going to make a appointment

with a pediatric neurologist but any insights would be appreciated

to get the most from my appointment. He takes brainchild

vitamens,Sam-e,EFA,vinpocetam,gaba with inositol,gse,transfer

factor, MB12 shots twice weekly, glutathione cream, ttfd cream, and

topical lauricidin, amd is chelated once per week with ALA cream

every 3 hrs. He has made remarkable progress with VB 4hrs. daily and

is attending mainstream kindergarten with a shadow. Academically he

is on 1st grade level reading and spelling about any word, counts to

1000 by 1, 2, or 5. Talking in sentences and beginning to be

conversational. I am so afraid Ive overlooked seizures, or that

meds for seizures will inhibit progress.

Ask your son's doctor to test mineral levels to see if a mineral imbalance is

contributing to or causing the seizures. Sometimes correcting an imbalance,

especially low magnesium, stops the seizure problem.

Another thing to watch for is a possible problem with using ALA. Not all

seizure-prone kids have difficulty with ALA but all the kids that I know who

have

reacted poorly to ALA have been seizure-prone and it's tended to greatly

increase seizures -- even at a very low, every 3-4 hour dose.

My son went through a stage where he would roll his eyes back, and had to

stop his speech while he was doing this. He would do the rolling as often as 5

or

6 times per minute, on occasions. A neurologist said this was petit mal

seizures. I am not sure that they were or not, but I do know that once I started

him on Lauricidin, they went away and never came back.

Don't talk about vitamins, etc. or you'll have the doc spend most of

the time trying to get you to stop it instead of paying attention to

your kid.

Stop them.

Stop it.

You are doing two things that have real potential for being part of the

problem. Unless he is very clearly responding positively to them I'd

stop them if I were you and see what happens.

The meds are sometimes pretty icky.

Excluding hydrogenated fats from the diet (rigorously if at all

possible) is enormously helpful but the neuro won't know this and will

probably get all upset and try to talk you out of it if you mention it.

It takes a couple of months for it to help so you'll still have plenty

of whatever it is for the neuro to see if you start now.
